You almost flinched when you saw your brother. You didn't see his face, only his back as he was faced away and sat on the counter of the kitchen. His back was slightly hunched with his head drooped. It looked as if he barely heard you coming home from school, staring at his phone with more interest.
This was what normally occurred in your household. Ignorance towards you. As if you were a small cloud of dust roaming among the house, barely noticeable however annoying enough to make one swat their hand.
You dropped your head.
Quietly closing the door, you slid off your shoes and swiftly made your way to the narrowed stairs of your home. Your grip tightened its hold on your backpack, seemingly eager to stray away from the suffocating atmosphere.
You've been going home a lot later than you normally would. You knew that. Your mom knew that, and even your brother— whom barely batters an eye at your direction, knows that.
It seemed that the world before you was finally crumbling down its perfect walls, making you able to perceive everything differently. Was this a good thing or the start of your demise?
You reached the door to your bedroom, extending your hand to grab the dirty, yet glistening knob. You stayed in that position for a moment longer.
Mattheo. The name seemed to be replaying itself frequently in your head. It wasn't by choice, however he was the reason you've been staying out later than normal. Nobody in your family would've guessed that you associated with a man like him; someone who in terms of status, surpasses the best.
Nobody knew but you that Mattheo was the son of who created society. You would've loved to brag about this knowledge to anyone, but you were in an enemies territory. On top of that nobody would've believed you anyways.
Your nose overcame the strong smell of peppermint once you stepped foot inside your small room. The scent made your throat release a solemn sigh.
You wished you hadn't left Jun so abruptly.
His look of urgency when he showed you the rusty-metallic key made your stomach churn. You figured it was a mixture of both anticipation and dread on what was to come if the two of you sneaked inside the office.
You dropped your heavy bag on your carpeted floor, dragging your feet to your messy bed before letting your body fall on the soft cushions.
Tomorrow was one day closer to the end of the school year, where you and Mattheo would make the dramatic entrance of announcing partnership.
This is so.. dumb. People are nosy. It's amazing how this is the only way to bring the best revenge.
You cranked your head up once you heard the sound of your door opening.
"Mom?"
You guessed.
A familiar head peaked inside of your room through the small crack. A woman with dark with strands of grey hair scanned your room, seemingly analyzing its perimeter before slipping inside.
"[Name], where were you?"
You sat up. Your mom wore a white apron that had greases and specks of tomato sauce splattered around. Her long, fried hair was held up in a loose bun. Her forehead burned with long wrinkles, her dark eyes narrowing as she strictly looked at you.
You noticed your mom looked tired.
"I was doing a school project.. that's all."
"Just a school project?"
