"Victoria was absent for three days a couple of weeks ago. Do you know anything about that?"

Hailey stirred her coffee as she added another pack of sugar, "Yeah. She had to come over to BHPD. It's about our brother."

Jason crossed his arms, "You have a brother?"

"Had. He was killed a year ago. Murdered. The killer wasn't found. They're still on the loose as to today," Hailey sighed, "I felt like I failed my job as a detective...and so she joined the force, to ease my anger and upset."

"I'm sorry. I can't imagine what you and your sister have been through."

"Yeah. I don't think they're going to continue investigating this. But I will."

Jason smiled warmly and nodded, then looked at his watch. "Ah, sorry. I gotta run. Work starts soon," he shot her and apologetic look.

"Yeah, of course. Go ahead. See you next time?"

Jason really wasn't the biggest fan of dates in diners and coffee shops. Privacy is a very important aspect of a date for him. But then again, he didn't know how to reject her offer, so here they are, in a coffee shop at 6AM, as their second date. And now she probably wants to have another one.

"Yeah. See you then," he walked out the door and into his car.

Shit. What's next? Eating cereal together at 3AM?

Jason got out of the locker room after changing and glanced over at the Captain's office. Captain Andersen was talking to Talia. Suddenly, he was startled by feeling a pat on his back, and he spun around to see Angela also looking at the Captain's office.

"Is that Talia?" Angela asked.

"Yeah. What do you think they're talking about? Could be either good or bad."

"Well, let's find out."

The two walked up the stairs to the Captain's office and waited outside, hiding around the corner. When the door opened and Talia walked out, they jumped.

"Ambush!" Jason yelled playfully.

Talia sighed in relief after being slightly startled, then looked over at Angela, ignoring Jason's antics.

"I got the tap."

Angela smiled genuinely, "Yeah, I thought as much. Congrats. Don't forget about us when you get your detectives badge."

Talia smirked and joked, "I'm sorry, do I know you?"

"Insufferable already," Jason looked at her with a bright smile, "You'd fit right in."

"I mean hey, it's not a done deal yet. I still have to take the exam."

Angela snorted, "We all know that if the detectives want you, you're in."

"Hey, hey, hey," Jason interrupted Angela to speak to her, "You're not mad, right?"

"Yeah," Talia looked at Angela with a concerned expression, "Are we good? I know you wanted it, too."

Angela shrugged it off and grinned, "Of course. I'm happy for you."

Jason wanted to second guess that, but despite the tight and close friendship the four had, he decided to believe Angela, even though there was still a tiny look of disappointment in her eyes.

.

.

"Are you going to become detective one day, too?" Victoria asked Jason in the shop, responding to a reported silent alarm.
