Yes, Oliver had once confronted Justin about his involvement in some illegal activity, which is still unproven to this day, whether it happened or not. But this seemed to infuriate Oliver, and he threatened Justin and did try to kill him.
TONY LONDON:
And did you, Mr Rutherford, witness any threats or hostile interactions directly between your son and Mr Troughton.
BOBBY RUTHERFORD:
I did not personally see or hear anything, but Justin often mentioned Oliver's threats and complaints about him and specifically brought up a 40s dance party that he'd attended in Keswick in the lake district when Mr Troughton blatantly lost his temper and there was witnesses to that fray.
TONY LONDON:

JUDGE DUNSTABLE:
Would you like to examine the character witness Ms Tate.
HELEN TATE:
Yes, your honour, you said that your sons crime was "unproven," so tell the court why he was put indefinitely on the sex offenders register for rapes on Pauline Brabham and Mrs Katherine Bates if there wasn't any evidence to substantiate the claims.
BOBBY RUTHERFORD:
Because people like Mr Bates and that cockney scumbag have framed him, they have had it out for him.
HELEN TATE:
How can the court take you seriously and ultimately consider your testimonial when you never witnessed the assult at the 40s party in Keswick 1996 but supposively have witnesses who haven't bothered to turn up today or the attempted murder of your son in Altrincham 1997... members of the jury keep in mind that the Rutherford's live on the same street, and it was on that street that Justin was attacked.
BOBBY RUTHERFORD:
I'm Justin's dad. i know when my flesh and blood are lying.
HELEN TATE:
Just because you're a dad doesn't mean your son doesn't lie to you... no further questions, your honour.
