June, 2018

Everything was still spinning even when the truck came to a halt on it's roof. But it was quiet. There was no screaming. Just silence for a few seconds before I heard Megan moan, "Oh my God," from the front seat.

"Winter. Hey, Winter." I heard Liam's voice.

He had unbuckled himself and landed on the truck ceiling. I felt him put his hand on my cheek to check if I was still conscious. I let out a small groan. I banged my head on the window. It didn't feel serious. There was no blood and I was certain that I wasn't concussed. But my right temple still throbbed. I let out a quiet painted groan and looked at Liam to show him that I was still awake.

"Come on. We need to get out of here." He said to me. He unbuckled me and caught me so I wouldn't fall. The doors on the right side of the truck were jammed shut so Megan and I had to crawl across and exit through Liam and Parker's doors. All four of us stood on the side of the road and stared at the truck. It was definitely totaled. Megan pulled her phone from her pocket and began dialing 911. Before she could press the call button, Parker snatched her phone from her and tossed it into the grass. He then pulled out his phone and called his father.

"Parker, what are you do-"

"Hush. I know what I'm doing." He cut Megan off before pressing the phone to his ear.

Allen and Maureen arrived within minutes. It was late, which thankfully meant there was nobody on the road besides us. They clamored out of the van, Maureen wrapping herself in her plush bathrobe and her slippers still on her feet.

"Did anyone call 911?" Allen asked.

"I nearly did." Megan responded.

"Why would you do that? Where's your phone?" Maureen asked her.

Megan pointed to the spot in the grass where Parker had tossed her phone minutes before. I was confused. Why would Maureen ask Megan why she would call 911? It seemed like the perfectly rational thing to do. Until I realized that all four of us were underaged and buzzed. And Parker was behind the wheel. Okay, I understood now.

Jason arrived minutes later with a tow truck. The lights lit up the dark road as he put it in park and hopped out to latch the hook to Parker's truck. We all stood back as we watched him flip the truck back on its tires. He then hopped out and all the adults talked quietly with themselves.

"W-What's happening?" I asked quietly.

"No clue." Liam said.

I felt his hand brush mine repeatedly as we watched Allen, Maureen, and Jason talk. I wanted so badly to grab it, but now was not the time. Finally after what seemed like hours, the adults disbanded. Jason hopped back in the tow truck and rolled his window.

"Be careful, son. I got only one of you." Jason called out to Liam.

"Okay." Liam responded to him.

Jason gave him a nod before rolling the window up and driving off with Parker's truck. Allen and Maureen then turned their attention to us.

"Does anybody need to go to the hospital?" Allen asked. But his tone of voice didn't seem concerned. It seemed almost monotone.

"Uh, well...my head hurts and-" I began to answer.

"Do you need to go to the hospital?" Maureen cut me off.

Her and Allen stared daggers into me. I knew that they didn't care. As far as they knew, none of us were bleeding so that meant we were all okay. I pressed my lips together. I hated how they were looking at me. I shyly glanced over at Parker, and he had a look of desperation in his eyes. I knew that if I said yes, they would begrudgingly take me and Parker would get in trouble. I felt Liam's hand brush against mine once again. I was becoming overstimulated. I needed to get out of this situation immediately.
