Chapter 39

Thirty-Nine

ISANG ORAS NA ang lumipas simula nang matapos ang insidente sa bahay ni Paul. Nang makalabas sila Warren at David ng bahay ay nandoon na ang mga pulis at kinakausap sina Omar at Jonathan.

Agad namang inutusan ni Warren ang assistant niya na tumawag ng ambulansya upang gamutin ang sugatang kamao ni David at para na 'rin magamot si Paul dahil malala ang natamo nitong sugat.

It didn't take long for the medical team to arrive. They quickly tend to David's injury and bandage his hands. Meanwhile, the other members of the medical team were bringing out Paul's body on a stretcher.

When the others saw Paul's state, they all gasped in horror at the sight of him... even Warren was startled.

Warren never had the chance to get a good look at Paul when they were at the basement earlier since his mind was focused on comforting David. However, now that Warren has seen the bastard, there's only one thing that comes to his mind: his bodyguard literally destroyed Paul's face.

It's a miracle that he was still breathing after he was beaten to death by David. Also, Paul was barely recognizable: his entire face was covered in dried blood, and the swelling on his face was severe too.

Warren wouldn't be too surprised if Paul would need an emergency treatment, or for that matter, a surgery.

However, in Warren's mind, Paul does not deserve to have the easy way out. Death shouldn't be his ultimate punishment, but life imprisonment and infinite suffering. Paul needs to pay for everything that he has done, and Warren would make sure of that.

As for the little girl, Madeleine, Claire arrived a moment later after the ambulance got to their location. They hugged and cried in each other's arms while Claire was whispering, "Thank god, you're okay. Patawarin mo si ate at hindi kita naprotektahan. Babawi sayo si ate. Wala nang makakapanakit pa sayo, Mads."

Nang mapatahan ni Claire ang nakababata niyang kapatid ay tumungo siya sa direksyon ni Warren at pinasalamatan ito. Gusto 'rin sana ni Claire kausapin si David kaso pinigilan siya ni Warren at sinabi na hindi maganda ang pakiramdam ng bodyguard niya ngayon.

Naintindihan naman iyon ni Claire at nagpasuyo nalang kay Warren na ipaalam kay David na sobra siyang nagpapasalamat dahil sa ginawa nitong pagsagip sa kanyang kapatid.

Nang maisakay si Paul sa ambulansya ay agad sumunod ang mga pulis. Ang natira nalang sa tapat ng bahay ni Paul ay sina Jonathan at ang kanyang team, si Omar, Warren, at David.

Kasalukuyang nakatanaw lang ng tingin si Warren kay David at pinapanood ang mga kilos nito. Samantala, nakasandal lamang si David sa hood ng kotseng dala nila habang taimtim na nakatitig sa may benda niyang mga kamay.

"Sir?"

Naalis ni Warren ang kanyang tingin kay David at nabaling ito kay Omar.

"Yes?"

"We're going to the hospital now. The police want us to be there so they can talk to us about what happened and why we're at the scene of crime."

Warren found his eyes landing on David again. Would it be a good thing to bring him to that hospital? Get bombarded with questions that are all about Paul... Would it trigger him? Would it make David go down that same ocean of misery again?

Those thoughts were the ones responsible for making Warren skeptical. Not to mention, David has been silent ever since they got out of the basement. Warren literally has no idea what's going on inside his bodyguard's mind.

Moreover, David didn't even answer the police when they tried asking him some questions. Ang sinabi nalang ni Warren sa mga nag-iinterrogate kay David ay sa ibang oras nalang nila kausapin ito uli dahil baka na-shocked pa ito sa nangyari kanina.
