Chapter Two: The Familiar Face

Maya walked into Mom's Place, greeted by the warm smile of Rachel, the owner. The diner was bustling with the usual crowd: farmers fueling up for a long day's work, students grabbing a quick breakfast before school, and retirees sipping coffee and swapping stories.

As she waited in line, Maya noticed a familiar face sitting in the corner booth - Alex, the new student at school. He caught her eye and nodded, Maya felt a flutter in her chest. She quickly looked away, focusing on the menu board.

When it was her turn to order, Rachel asked about her day, and Maya shared her plans to meet Sofia at the library. Rachel's expression turned serious, and she leaned in close. "Be careful, Maya. There's talk going around about... things. Just be aware, okay?"

Maya nodded, sensing a hint of warning in Rachel's tone. She took her coffee and pastry and slid into the booth across from him.
