Lexus Parker always joked that she could dance before she could walk, and in some ways it was true. Sixteen years of her childhood were spent in the local studio, training and competing nationally for the title of the best. That chapter of her life came to a close when she off went to college up north, though with her college team she was able to bring home six national titles in four years against other talented teams across the country. But the itch to keep dancing hadn't left as she graduated with her degree in nursing, on a whim deciding to move to Dallas, Texas— home of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
Being a part of the coveted DCC team had always been a dream of hers, but Lexus never believed it would be a reality. She'd tried out for the team initially right out of high school, fresh faced with no clue about the intensity of the audition process. After being cut during training camp, she continued on with her plan of dancing in college for Ohio State while getting her nursing degree, dreaming to go back to Dallas after graduating and hopefully finding more success. Second time was the charm, making it through the final round of cuts with the promise of cheering for America's Team every weekend.
Her rookie year in 2023 had been straight out of a fairytale, on cloud nine as she went on to be awarded the coveted Rookie of the Year award from the organization.
But then things fell out of her control the next year during her first training camp as a veteran, as twenty years of wear and tear on her body from thousands of hours of dance got to be too much. Her scream of agony as she landed in a jump split on the practice field, the first of the year while clad in the blue rhinestoned matching set that the veteran cheerleaders wore, haunting Lexus' dreams for the next few days as she pushed through the pain of her torn hip— unwilling to admit that she couldn't go on for much longer. Thirty-seven women had made the team that year, which made the decision to replace her all that much easier for the coaches to maintain their thirty-six woman formation for Thunderstruck.
It wasn't what Lexus wanted, having to give up her dream job to accept that she needed time to heal. She had already been searching for a new nursing job for a while in Texas, ultimately deciding to move back to Florida to figure out what was next for her as there wasn't much left for her at the moment.
Little did she know that her childhood neighbor was back in town as well for the time being, as they'd just both lost their dream jobs and had no idea what their futures looked like. Despite having spent most of their childhood glued to the side of the other, she'd only seen Logan Sargeant a handful of times since he moved to Europe before they were even teenagers: the year before while the DCCs made their annual appearance at the United States Grand Prix in Austin in October, her oldest sister's wedding in London in November, weekend a trip home in December, and when he came to a game a few days after New Year's Day during his offseason. Her parents would laugh that she was destined to be friends with the professional driver, they did name their daughter after a car brand after all.
Being face to face with someone who had lost their dream just as she had was uncomfortable, but the two would be trying to figure out what was in store for them. Together.
