In an alternate timeline, our solar system is much larger with extra planets and natural satellites. All the planets in the system had a thicker atmosphere to combat the heat. This alternate solar system has three habitable worlds. Those worlds are Earth, Thycion, and Martkul. All three of which house several diverse species, let's take a look at each planet:
Earth: Homeworld of humanity, from the outside, a garden world with a diverse amount of wildlife and climates. But this planet has a bloody history of war, extinction, and cataclysms. Yet mankind endured as the dominant species of the planet. Earth is widely known as its industrial and military capabilities spread across over 100 nations unified under a single banner. They have contributed to the development of efficient energy sources for interstellar colonization along with weapons development. They are often credited as the ones to first invent nuclear fusion and are the ones that created the modern military doctrine that all following civilizations followed. Cities on Earth are often described as architectural Marvels and works of art while still remaining functional. They are united under the United Nations, but it's most influential nation states are the United States, China, and the Nations under the European Union.
Thycion: Homeworld of the Thysions, a species psionic flightless birdlike race that is slightly physically weaker than humans, but that's not saying much. They communicate with the other races via telepathic links that can comprehend their language in the other races native tongues. The planet of Thycion are often well known as a world of mountains ranges and temperate jungles, the conditions of the planet and its atmospheric makeup is similar to Earth and the other planets which is a godsend as the three races often interact with each other. The cities on the planet are more utilitarian and practical as opposed to the wondrous piece of art of Earth cities, which is unsurprising, as their society is a martial state. All the nations of Thycion are unified under one government as the Thycion Hierarchy. The planet's history is very similar to Earth. Of war, strife, and catastrophes but at a smaller scale. Their biggest contributions are military technology and Advanced Material Science.
Martkul: Home of the Culitoids, a race of sentient insects about the size of a horse that is very in appearance and sometimes body structure. They primarily communicated in clicks and sign language before the Advent of speech modules. The planet of Martkul is yet another temperate environment with lush tropical environments, beautiful rainforests, and jungles. Their societies are split up into a mix of Kingdoms and republics, ruled by either a council or a monarch, usually a queen. There are currently over 80 kingdoms and republics on the planet. Their cities resemble the hives of the Earthly counterparts and their ancestors, albeit with modern amenities, and tend to be artificial. All the nations are under an economic union that shares a universal currency similar to the European Union and is marginally more advanced than the other two worlds. Their contributions are artificial intelligence and robotics.
Astronomers of ancient times of each world have noticed more celestial bodies than we have in our own timeline. These sightings remain unconfirmed until powerful telescopes are invented, and each species starts to put satellites into space. Around that time, they also started to receive radio Transmissions from from the other planets, although they chalked it up to radio glitches. That was until 1977 with the launch of Voyager 1 and 2. Mankind for the first time, realized that they weren't alone as they saw the two other worlds that share the same Goldilocks zone as they did.
A first official contact occurred around 1983 when the Thycion State Space Agency made contact with radio stations on Martkul and Earth. The space industry boomed after 1983 as the three plants raced to meet each other and establish first official contact. Hiccups came along the way with the Challenger disaster of 1986 and the Endurance disaster of 1989 for Martkul.
Also, during this time of the '80s, renewed interests with the moon's respective homeworlds made it the prime place for easy rocket launches and hubs for interplanetary travel. Many national governments started to fund research in outer space habitation and environmental suits in case the atmospheres of the different planets are not suitable. By 1992, the three worlds finally made contact with each other properly.
This was the second space race, marked by technological growth and tragedies. While also being marked with competitive nations trying to outdo each other.
The main story will be set from 1992 - 2000. It change from the perspectives of each planet and was written in the style of a documentary and transcripts from news reports.
