Once upon a time in the grand kingdom of Luminara, Prince Minho found himself entangled in a web of royal expectations and familial obligations. Born into the lap of luxury, Minho had always envisioned a life where he could choose his own path, especially when it came to matters of the heart. However, fate had other plans. His father, King Alexander, had decreed an arranged marriage to solidify an alliance with a neighboring duchy. The chosen bride, however, was not a duchess or a noblewoman, but Seungmin, a commoner whose intellect and kind heart had impressed the royal court. Minho was infuriated; he already had a girlfriend, Lady Isabella, whom he loved deeply. The thought of marrying someone else was unbearable.
"Father, this is absurd! How can you expect me to marry someone I don't love?" Minho's voice echoed through the grand hall.
"Minho, this is not just about you. This marriage is crucial for the kingdom's future," King Alexander replied sternly.
Reluctantly, Minho agreed to meet Seungmin, who was equally dismayed by the arrangement. They met in the royal garden, a place where the air was thick with the scent of blooming roses and the sound of chirping birds. Minho's eyes were cold, and his demeanor was distant. Seungmin, on the other hand, was composed but visibly uncomfortable.
"Look, Seungmin, neither of us wants this. I have someone I love, and I'm sure you have your own dreams," Minho began, trying to soften his harsh tone.
"You're right, Your Highness. This isn't what I envisioned for my life either," Seungmin replied, his voice tinged with sadness.
Minho sighed, running a hand through his hair. "How about we make a pact? We'll go through with this marriage for the sake of our families and the kingdom. But after two years, we can file for a divorce. By then, the alliance will be solidified, and we can both move on with our lives."
Seungmin's eyes widened in surprise. "Do you think it will work?"
"It has to," Minho said firmly. "We just need to play our roles convincingly for two years. After that, we can part ways amicably."
And so, the two agreed to the pact. The wedding was a grand affair, attended by nobles from far and wide. Minho and Seungmin played their parts perfectly, smiling and exchanging vows as if they were genuinely in love. But behind closed doors, their relationship was strictly platonic, governed by the agreement they had made.
A few months into their marriage, a grand ball was announced to celebrate the kingdom's prosperity. As the prince and his consort, Minho and Seungmin were expected to attend. On the night of the ball, Seungmin dressed in a tailored suit that highlighted his youthful charm. The outfit, carefully chosen by the royal tailor, was a soft shade of lavender that brought out the warmth in his eyes.
As Minho waited in the grand hall, he couldn't help but notice Seungmin as he descended the staircase. For a moment, Minho's breath caught in his throat. "You look... really cute tonight," Minho said, his voice betraying a hint of surprise.
Seungmin's cheeks flushed a deep crimson as he managed a shy smile. "Thank you, Your Highness."
The ball was a dazzling affair, filled with laughter, music, and dance. As the night progressed, it was time for the traditional dance between the prince and his consort. Minho, ever the dutiful prince, extended his hand to Seungmin. "Shall we?"
Seungmin hesitated for a moment before placing his hand in Minho's. "Of course."
As they danced, Minho led with the confidence of someone who had been trained in the art since childhood. He moved gracefully, his mind elsewhere, possibly thinking of Lady Isabella. Seungmin, however, found himself increasingly flustered. Every step, every twirl, seemed to bring him closer to Minho, and he couldn't help but feel the magnetic pull of the prince's charm.
"You're a good dancer," Minho remarked casually, his eyes meeting Seungmin's for a brief moment.
Seungmin's heart raced. "Thank you. You're not so bad yourself," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady.
As the dance continued, Seungmin felt a wave of annoyance wash over him. How could he be so easily charmed by Minho, especially when he knew this marriage was nothing more than a facade? The realization made him clench his jaw in frustration.
"Is something wrong?" Minho asked, noticing the change in Seungmin's expression.
"No, nothing at all," Seungmin replied quickly, forcing a smile.
Minho raised an eyebrow but said nothing. The dance ended, and they both bowed to the applause of the onlookers. As they retreated to a quieter corner of the hall, Minho couldn't help but ask, "You seemed... distracted during the dance. Are you sure everything's okay?"
Seungmin sighed, his eyes meeting Minho's. "It's just... complicated. This whole situation is complicated."
Minho nodded, understanding all too well. "I know. But remember our pact. We're in this together, and we'll get through it."
Seungmin managed a small smile. "You're right. We'll get through it."
As the night drew to a close, Minho and Seungmin stood side by side, watching the fireworks light up the sky. For a moment, the weight of their responsibilities seemed to lift, and they were just two people, caught in a moment of unexpected companionship.
