The church bells chimed midnight, and the sound echoed through the quiet city, while the world was bathed in the gentle light of the moon, wrapped in peaceful silence. I wondered if my parents would notice that I had once again slipped out the window. It was a cloudless night, and I savored the cool air brushing against my face. The sky was dotted with sparkling stars, and it felt as if the world had stopped turning, just to keep this magical moment from ending. I walked along a narrow path and soon spotted a bench—our meeting point. Right beside it was a lake, where the night reflected upon its surface. My heart raced as I realized Bucky was already sitting there. He wore an elegant suit, making him look even more attractive than usual, which was saying something.
When he saw me, his face lit up with a warm, familiar smile. Rising from the bench, he slowly walked toward me. "Hey, witch," he said softly, his voice like a calming river—rough yet so gentle. He studied my face, and with every inch, his eyes glowed more. My smile grew with each passing second before I stood on my tiptoes, wrapped my arms around his neck, and whispered a soft "Hey" before kissing him. I had thought the night alone was magical, but now I knew it was so much more. When I pulled away, I looked into his stunning blue eyes and doubted for a moment that this was real. It was like we were the leads in a perfect romance movie, the kind everyone dreams of experiencing. My life truly felt like the most beautiful film I had ever seen.
We looked up at the sky together, and I leaned against his shoulder. "It's so beautiful," I murmured softly into his ear, and he turned to me with a smirk. "I was worried the weather wouldn't cooperate," he said, and we both started laughing. I placed my hand on his cheek, and he leaned into my touch, closing his eyes. "I'd dance with you in the rain," I whispered, and he kissed my forehead—his silent promise to always stay by my side. Bucky smirked and took my hand in his. "There's so much I want to say to you, but I often can't find the right words," he admitted after a moment of silence. I could hear the worry in his voice. Bucky had never been one for many words; instead, he showed what he couldn't say, and that meant so much more. "You don't need to worry, Bucky," I replied, looking into his eyes. "You show me every day."
"Would you like to dance?" he asked suddenly, and that was exactly what I meant when I said he shows me. Dancing at midnight, in an empty park, under the starry sky—what could be more beautiful? I nodded, and he gently pulled me to my feet. We moved together, as we always did, the steps already instinctual, and the world around us faded into a soft mist of colors and lights. His hands rested securely on my back, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. The closeness felt familiar and comforting; he was my home, the person I felt safe with. My eyes filled with tears, and I hugged him tighter. "I'll always be here for you, Bucky, no matter what happens." We continued to dance, and I felt weightless.
Our dance slowed, and we eventually stood still in each other's embrace. Bucky leaned in and kissed me softly. I closed my eyes, holding onto the moment for as long as I could. It was a moment of peace and love, and I wished it could last forever. Bucky took my hand and gently ran his finger over my ring—my golden wedding band.
"I'll always come back to you," Bucky said quietly, "no matter what happens." Another reason to hold on to this moment for as long as I could, because in just a few days, Bucky would be heading back into battle alongside Steve and the other members of the Howling Commandos, in the fight against Hydra. "And I'll wait for you," I replied, resting my head on his shoulder. "No matter how long it takes."
When I jolted awake, the smell of smoke hit me immediately. I pulled my shirt over my mouth and nose to breathe in as little as possible. Everything was dark. I felt Nat's body next to me, but when I nudged her, she didn't respond. Her steady breathing was the only reassurance that she was still alive. "Elora," I heard Steve's voice beside me. He was alive.
"I'm fine, but Nat's unconscious," I quickly responded, and Steve pressed with all his strength against his shield, pushing away the debris that had nearly crushed us. A starry sky became visible overhead, and I almost had to laugh at the irony—my dream had been so much better. At that moment, I spotted two helicopters in the sky, scanning the area. They belonged to S.H.I.E.L.D., which meant the S.T.R.I.K.E. team couldn't be far behind. I still couldn't believe any of this had really happened—that we had been so blind. Arnim Zola's words echoed in my mind endlessly, but there was no time for that now. We had to get out of here quickly and hope for a miracle to stop Hydra.
Carefully, I climbed out of the crater, with Steve following closely behind, carrying Nat in his arms. At first glance, she seemed to be only unconscious, not seriously hurt. In the distance, I could hear Rumlow's voice giving orders to systematically search the grounds, which had once been an old base but now resembled a battlefield. We ran as fast as we could into the surrounding woods, and I cut off anyone who might think of following us by setting flames to block the path. We ran for what felt like miles, and only when I was sure no one was tailing us, I leaned against a tree, finally taking a deep breath since we'd left the grounds. My sides ached, and my mouth was dry. "Now what?" Steve asked, and I almost choked. If Captain America was asking me what to do next, things were really serious. I thought for a moment, but only one place came to mind. "Sam Wilson."

It wasn't until after writing this that I realized how cheesy the dream scene sounded, but after all the exhausting chapters, I decided to just leave it as is.
I sometimes wish you could see my facial expressions while I write these chapters because I really get into the situation and go through every emotion myself.
Feel free to leave any feedback! :)
Until next time <3
