*Rae-Lynn's POV*

Ugh, Monday. The day I hate. To be specific, the day everyone hates. I check my phone before I start my routine for school. As I unlock my screen, I notice that the sun is shining way to bright to be morning. I look down at my phone to see

18 texts and 4 missed calls from Lauren
7 texts from Johnson
3 missed calls from Gilinsky

I overslept. Unbelievable. My body shoots up from my comfy, warm bed that I don't want to leave and carries me downstairs. I eat a granola bar and pack my backpack, then go back upstairs. My mom leaves early in the morning so I usually wake myself up and I guess I failed miserably at it today. I cannot afford to get a detention because I am having the Jacks, Lauren and Shawn over after school for something important.

Once I enter my bathroom, I do all the necessities that I always do, brush my teeth and hair, put my makeup on and get dressed. I just put on some concealer and mascara and then wear black skinny jeans with a flannel tied around it, a 5 seconds of summer tank top and converse. I also whip my hair in a side braid and run out the door with my penny board. The school is pretty close to Lauren's, Jack G's, Jack J's, and Shawn's house so I just skate. I'm not that close with Shawn but Lauren is, they are girl and guy besties like me and the Jack's. It's fun to all hang out and everything, especially since we all live so close. We all grew up together being in the same neighborhood. Actually, me and Lauren were the first to meet and were best friends instantly.

My thoughts were interrupted by me bashing into the school flag pole. Wonderful. You wanna know why that's wonderful? Cuz I hit my head and now there's probably going to be a bruise. I ignore it and bolt into the school, trying not to think about being punished. I'm pretty sure I'm in English right now, and that's the class that I'm in with Jack, Jack, Lauren, and Shawn. At least I can look forward to that. As I put in my locker combination, my head starts throbbing where I his it but I ignore that also and go to class after I have everything.

"Miss Smith... nice of you to finally show" our English teacher Mrs. Lopez remarks coldly.

I give a slight shaky smile as everyone looks back at me. I look at Lauren and she mouths 'where have you been?!'

I look back up at Mrs. Lopez and tell her what happened.

"My uh, m-my uncle passed away last night. Yeah and I was up until like one o'clock with my family. I lost track of time this morning and accidentally over-slept" I lie. Oops. It's not the first time I've lied to show up late and I've never gotten caught so I think I'm good.

"I'm sorry for your loss Miss Smith but try not to do it again" she goes back to her desk to continue grading papers. Everyone else goes back to what their doing and I join Lauren and Shawn's group.

"I'm really sorry Rae-Lynn. About your uncle" Shawn sympathizes and the Jacks come and join us.

"Man, that's terrible, I'm sorry Rae" Gilinsky puts his hand on my shoulder

"Me too, that's tough" Johnson joins

I look at Lauren and we both just laugh and they look at us like were crazy.

"Well played" Lauren fist bumps me

"What are you talking about?" Shawn is confused.

Lauren slings her arm around him and bops his nose while giggling. "She was lying mr gullible"

We all laugh and start working on a project.

"Hey Rae!" Lauren pats the seat next to her and I scootch over to that one.
