The Nagari are a race of snake-like humanoids who have lived alongside humans since the beginning. They helped humans survive by giving them access to the magic they obtained through their gods. The two species were allies for many years, each supporting the other.
Eventually, the humans outnumbered the Nagari, and the allyship started to dwindle as the humans continued to take more land and resources from the Nagari. Soon after, Mankind began to see the Nagari as monsters and started driving them further away from the ever-growing human cities and into the wilderness.
Things became worse as humans caused the population to dwindle by hunting Nagari. Humans discovered that the Nagari's scales were practically indestructible and more valuable than anything ever created. With the beautiful colors the scales could come in, they were priced high, soon becoming more prized than a Nagari life itself.
Today, Nagari are considered works of fiction, with only those high in power knowing about the final kingdom of Slilyra. The last 200 living Arneceans have prayed constantly to the gods as the ever-growing human world has caused illness and fertility problems.
Now, the final Nagari King has been killed by humans, with no heir to take his place. With no way to create a new king, the last few Nagari pray to their gods, hoping the beings will answer their prayers lest they go extinct. The gods answer these prayers, deciding that humans have taken too many of their creations and that they shall take from the humans now. They decide on a young man named Basil York, who could be a great ruler, and create a snake to turn Basil into the new Nagari King.
