Mae and Anya had barely stepped into the jacuzzi when they spotted Jaden and Javon heading their way. Mae rolled her eyes playfully.
"Here we go again," she muttered, sinking lower into the water.
"Girl, you better not act like you're not excited," Anya smirked, nudging her. "Move your ass over and make room for our 'famous' guests."
Mae snorted but shifted over, just as the twins slipped into the jacuzzi with a splash. Javon stretched out his arms, clearly comfortable, while Jaden leaned back with a lazy grin.
"What are you two up to today?" Javon asked casually, though his eyes flickered towards Mae a bit too often.
"Just chilling," Anya replied. "Mae's got a room here, so we've been making the most of it. Ice skating, riding our horses—you know, the usual."
Jaden's eyebrows shot up. "You've got horses here?"
Mae nodded. "Yep. Gabbana's mine, and Anya's got Sky. There's a ranch connected to the hotel."
Jaden let out a low whistle. "Fancy. I can barely keep a goldfish alive."
Anya giggled. "Well, not everyone can be as extra as us."
"Clearly," Jaden chuckled. "I stick to sports that don't involve animals. Baseball, mostly."
Anya perked up. "Baseball? Are you, like, any good?"
Jaden shrugged, acting nonchalant. "I guess you could say that. I've got around three million followers on Instagram."
Mae blinked. "Three million?!"
"Most of that's because of this dumbass," Jaden said, jerking a thumb at Javon. "We're twins, so people think I'm good-looking by association."
Javon rolled his eyes. "I can't help it if we both hit the genetic jackpot."
"Don't flatter yourself, smartass," Mae teased, splashing him with water.
Javon grinned, shaking his head as water dripped from his hair. "I'm just stating facts."
They spent the next few minutes chatting about everything—volleyball, the horses, and Jaden's baseball career. Javon was quieter than usual, but Mae couldn't shake the feeling that his attention was on her the entire time. Every time she spoke, he was locked in, like she was saying something profound. It was... distracting.
After a while, the four of them decided to head back to their rooms, and as soon as the door to their suite closed, Anya exploded.
"Girl," she practically screamed, throwing herself onto the bed. "Javon was, like, obsessed with you!"
Mae frowned, trying to play dumb. "What are you on about?"
"Don't play innocent," Anya said, sitting up and fixing Mae with a knowing look. "He couldn't stop looking at you the entire time. And not just, like, casual glances—he was into everything you were saying. The horses, the ranch, even that random story about volleyball. He was eating it up."
Mae rolled her eyes. "You're exaggerating."
Anya crossed her arms. "No, I'm not. You know I'm right. And don't even get me started on how he, like, asked about your full name."
Mae blinked. "What do you mean?"
"Oh, girl, come on. You didn't notice? He totally remembered that Mae isn't your full name, so he's probably thinking about you way more than you realise," Anya said with a smirk.
Right on cue, Mae's phone buzzed with a message. She hesitated before glancing at it.
Javon: Mae's not short for something, right?
Mae's heart did a little flip, but she played it cool as she typed back.
Mae: Actually, yeah. It's short for Marie-Élise. Why?
His response came almost immediately.
Javon: Thought so. Marie-Élise suits you. It's kinda... elegant.
Mae felt her cheeks heat up, and she quickly tossed her phone aside, but Anya wasn't about to let it slide.
"Oh my God, what did he say?" she demanded, eyes wide with excitement.
"Nothing," Mae mumbled, her voice a little too high-pitched.
"Liar," Anya shot back, grabbing a pillow and whacking Mae with it. "Tell me!"
Mae groaned, burying her face in her hands. "He just said my full name was elegant, okay?"
Anya squealed, practically vibrating with excitement. "I knew it! You two are, like, so meant to be. I'm shipping this so hard."
Mae sighed, flopping onto the bed next to her. "There's nothing to ship, Anya. We're just friends."
"Pfft, please. You guys have, like, Mavon energy."
Mae blinked. "Mavon?"
"Yeah, you know, Mae plus Javon equals Mavon. It's the perfect couple name."
Mae stared at her. "You need help."
"I'm serious! You two would be so good together," Anya said, dramatically flopping onto her back. "The whole world would ship it. I can see the headlines now: Mavon—The New Power Couple."
Mae laughed, shaking her head. "You're ridiculous."
Anya sat up again, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Okay, okay, but seriously... don't tell me you didn't feel something when he was looking at you."
Mae bit her lip, feeling the heat rise to her cheeks again. "I... I don't know. Maybe?"
"Maybe?" Anya echoed, looking scandalised. "Mae, girl, this is not a drill. Javon Walton is into you, and you, obviously, are into him. It's, like, destiny or something."
Mae groaned. "You've been reading too many romance novels."
Anya smirked. "Maybe. But I know a good ship when I see one. And, girl, Mavon is it."
