Today was a Friday. This one was special because I'm having a sleepover with all of my friends at my house. I'm so proud of myself, I planned it perfectly so everyone could come. 8 people, Autumn, April, Jay, Charlotte, Robin, Ashley, Jordan, and me.
I got to school, having my first period with Charlotte.
"Hey, Charlotte." I said, sitting down in the chair next to her.
"Oh, hey Skye." She said calmly, looking a bit tired.
"How many hours did you get last night?"
"Oh, maybe 2 or 3." Charlotte had insomnia. Even sleeping pills didn't help her much. Her eyebags looked heavy, like they were weighing her down lots.
I took out my homework, getting ready to grade it. I almost completely forgot I had homework last night. I can't handle getting another bad grade 'cause if I do my B will drop to a C, or maybe even a D. And if I start failing, I'll get kicked out of doing cross-country. Even though I don't like it much at all, it'll be embarrassing because everyone will know why I'm not on the team anymore.
My next two classes were with Jordan and Ashley. We talked a bit, we seemed to get along well. In the second period, the teacher introduced us to a new student, Irene. She was stunning. Her beautiful orange hair reaching her chest, her slight freckles dotted all over her face. Her blue eyes had a dark ring around them, you couldn't miss them. She had golden earrings that were shaped into a diamond shape, with sapphire in the middle. It matched her eyes perfectly.
Now lunch has come. I love lunch. I got to sit with all of my closest friends.
"What should we do at the sleepover?" I wanted to start a conversation.
April spoke, "Maybe we could cook something! Or- or bake something!"
"That's boring." Charlotte blurted out.
"You're boring." April said, with a disappointed look on her face.
I smiled, I love watching their conversations. I'm not much of a talker. I love hearing others talk, I love listening intently to their conversations. Gosh, I caught myself acting like a mother again. I need to stop this.
"I've seen these videos on Youtube and Tiktok of people sneaking out at like- 2 AM! We could go out the window or something!" Jordan said, her face full of thrill. She paused, you could see the happiness drain out of her face. "Oh wait,
Skye has a two story though."
Everyone was disappointed.
"I have no cameras."
Everyone looked at me, surprised, they thought I'd never even let them do anything dangerous. I actually liked the idea of sneaking out. We were teens and pre-teens.. Except Robin, she's eleven. But that's besides the point. We need to have thrill in our life, live in the moment. All adults say we need to cherish our teen years. So what's the problem with this? It's not like I'd ever let anything happen to them. And eight girls against a stupid man? Pfft.
"Really, Skye?" Robin said, her face brightening up.
"Really. Unless you guys blow it completely. We have to be super quiet."
That new girl walked up to our table.
"Can I sit here?" She asked, behind me.
"No." Charlotte said. I ignored her.
"Yeah." I scooted over and she sat down.
Autumn spoke to the new girl, "So, what's your name?"
"Oh. I'm Irene. You?"
Her voice was so pretty, like an angel was speaking. Her hair looked silky smooth. If only I could play with it, except that would be weird- or awkward. I took a few glances at her. Why did I feel like a weirdo? Isn't it normal to look at people when they're talking? I'm scared of making eye contact.
Everyone started looking at me. It took me forever to realize that I was spacing out.
"What?" I asked, looking around, wondering why everyone was looking at me for an answer.
"What I said was," Jay started, "Can Irene come to the sleepover?"
"Oh-" I took a glance at Irene accidentally, then realized she was looking straight at me and I looked away as fast as I could. "yeah, my parents wouldn't care." Yeah, I lied. My parents might care, but I don't.
Crap! What if she thinks I like her now? I need to avoid eye contact. Only my friends know about my sexuality, so she probably doesn't suspect anything. Hopefully, anyway.
"So, what's your name?" Irene said to me, the rest of my friends having their own conversations.
"I'm Skye." I couldn't bring myself to remain having eye contact with her. I was nervous.
She asked, "So.. sleepover at your house?"
"Yep. Everyone's coming, so it'll be pretty fun. We might even sneak out. "
"Really? I've wanted to sneak out for so long! I've watched tons of videos of it." she paused. "But I have cameras."
"Aw, yeah."
"Any favorite hobbies?"
"Well, I like drawing, writing, and listening to music.." I thought about it for a second before saying, "video games, too." I looked down and smirked, a little embarrassed. I play roleplaying games and dragon games n' stuff- she'll probably think that's lame.
"You seem pretty cool." She smiled, joining in on the conversation with the others.
I feel like a little kid. Like I'm less mature- usually I feel like the most mature person here.
Time passed quickly, I enjoyed my boring lunch. I basically had the same lunch everyday. Everyone was talking about what we should do once we sneak out, so now it was basically official.
What should I do if one of my parents call me? I can't think of an excuse.
"Hey Skye!" April said.
"Yeah?" I looked up, realizing I just got lost in my thoughts once again.
"Your parents should pick us up in the tesla!"
I laughed. "We can't all fit in there!"
"Oh, right." She looked at Irene awkwardly. She was another person. Usually we would have four people in the back, two in the front and two in the trunk. We didn't really care too much because I'm not far from the school at all. We barely even fit then- how will we add another person?
"It's fine. My parents usually bring my other car anyway." Even though the other car was more expensive than the tesla, they still like the tesla more. I mean, I can see why. But the other car has seven actual seats, and if we fit two more it'll be easy.
