Every day I'm left to wonder what life would be like if alphas didn't exist.

Ricky thought this as he watched his luggage be loaded off into a black Sudan, he had been standing off to the side with his father, Mike, while his mother and her new partner spoke with men in navy blue suits.

He turned to look at his father when he felt the familiar short-lived breaths of a person engulfed in sorrow.

“I’m so sorry Ricky.” Mike spoke through his tears.

“Dad it’s not your fault.”

“But I didn’t stop it.” Mike pulls Ricky into a deeper hug than before, kissing him on the forehead.

“There was nothing you could do, I'll be fine.”

“I know that kiddo, you're a Bowen man, we’re tough, but that doesn't mean I can't worry.”

Before Ricky could reply his stomach churned, the sound of a vehicle pulling up behind him, the sound of gravel crunching under the feet of someone accompanied by the clicking of a car door, the sounds lied up each hitting him harder than the last,
“It’s time.” Todd spoke as he and Lynn walked up to the father and son.

“Why did you agree to this, He’s just a kid.” mike spoke in a way that made those who listened feel shame, while Lynn shortly fell victim, Todd did not.

“He’s doing a service to his family; this is good for him.” Todd’s tone was smug, he knew there was nothing any of the Bowens could do about the arrangement.

“You mean it's good for your family, you can't even tell us the name of the pack family you’ve signed my kid off to.”

“He’s not just you’re kid.” Lynn spoke, finally getting a word in.

“Funny you say that when he only has ONE parent fighting for him!”

Before the conversation could get any more heated, the small group fell silent when the scent of an alpha filled the air.

“Ah Cash, we were just saying our goodbyes to the boy, he’s ready.” Todd said, his voice unmoved but his heart beating loud enough for everyone to hear.

'Pussy' Ricky thought to himself.

The Wealthy man didn't reply to the sad display of comradery, instead he snapped his fingers, and Ricky was grabbed by two large people he hadn't noticed before, in his protest he had been struck across the face.

“Ricky!” Mike tried to free his son only to be repaid with a swift blow to his abdomen, he got up as quickly as he went down but he was restrained by the men who spoke to Todd.

“Mike! Todd what is this, why are they being so...Aggressive!” Lynn demanded an answer from the  unnerved man.

“Sweetie, you know how alphas are, they love to be eccentric, but they hate being challenged.”

Mike fought against the grip of the soldiers. “YOU DAMN COWARD, you cannot do this! He’s just a kid!”

Cash gave mike a swift blow to the face and leaned down to the now bleeding and delirious man.

“A kid who now belongs to me.”  He then turned to a similar fighting Ricky, but unlike his father he shook free of the guards’ grasp and was able to reach Cash, delivering a punch to his face.

Cash smirked as he wiped the blood from his lip and returned the blow, but much harder, knocking Ricky unconscious.

Lynn now was fighting against the hold of Todd spitting obscenities and venom at the alpha in her presence, no fear in her tone or heart nor voice.
