“Oyeee Aaruu!” I heard Ronika call me as I headed towards her direction. It was our free period since Miss Joshi was absent today and we (scratch that, it was just me) asked Miss Madhu to take us outside to the ground since it had been a while since we went out to the ground.
“Han bol Ronika kya hua?” I said, sitting next to her on the ground stairs. “Tujhe pata tha na ki Vivaan ki class bahar aane wali hai?” She asked as I gave her the nastiest mean eye ever.
Yes, Yuku and Ronika madam (and maybe the whole ass school) thinks me and Vivaan aka the school captains are dating each other.
“Abbe what the freak?” I questioned Ronika's existence as I saw an astonished Yuku coming towards us.
Abb isse kya hua??
“Hemlo Yuk-” “mendhak ki aankh! tujhe pata tha na ki Vivaan ki class nikalne wali hai aaj bahar??” She asked me the same question as I gave them a look of confusion. “Nahi pata tha bhai mujhe? Aisa kya ho ga-”
I got my head turned by my fellow bestie towards the basketball ground as I saw the mentioned man in his jersey, playing with his classmates.
“Bhai are y'all jinxing my life right now?!” I blurted out, my mouth literally hanging wide open at the shock. “Lagg toh raha hai!” I heard Yukti say as she also looked at the direction of the group playing and laughing joyfully.
End of the period.
Me and Ronika were having a badminton match with Yukti as the referee of 10 points as I played the last shot and Ronika missed it.
“YAYYYY!!” I jumped in delight as I saw a defeated and pouty Ronika on the other side of the badminton net. “Nice play Rohi!” Yuku came towards me and gave me a high-five as Ronika came towards us.
“Yaar yeh toh cheating hai!” Ronika feigned sadness as she handed me her racket and the shuttlecock (without me realizing-). “I won fair and square babu moshay!” I cheered as I heard the bell ring.
“Let's get going bachha log!” We heard Miss Madhu call us out as I started walking towards the school when I felt Yukti tug on my uniform.
“Oye winner madam kidhar?” She asked as I finally saw the rackets and shuttlecocks in my hand and gave the nastiest side eye to both of them.
“Kya kutte logg ho yaar tum dono!” I pouted as Ronika patted my shoulder. “Bhai abhi Maa- I mean Miss Ritu ki class hai and Yuku aur maine last time submit nahi kiya tha homework. Abhi yeh rakhne ke chakkar mein late hue toh humari waat lag jayegi gandi wali.” She said, making me facepalm as I saw Yuku now standing next to her, nodding along.
Oh I just know for sure ki yeh dono Vivaan ko sports room bhejenge!
“Tum dono ko sher ke muh mein haath daalna pasand hai na?” I went with their flow and rolled my eyes as they gave their puppy eyes look. “Achha achha thik hai rakh dungi!” I stated as they both gave each other double high-fives, bid me a goodbye and ran away.
“Kya gadhe log hain yeh dono.” I just smiled to myself as I made my way towards the sports room.
Sports room.
“kya- shelf- hai- yeh-” My 5’5” footiya self tried to keep the rackets on the top shelf of a 6’5” feet open almirah by tiptoeing my life away.
“Abbe hatt yaar! Yeh rakhne mein 100 saal lagenge!” I pouted again, stretching my hand to place it while failing miserably as the rim of the racket bonked my head hard.
In the midst of my failed attempts and a swollen head, a deep voice called out from behind that made my head turn, “May I help you?” That voice was enough to send chills through my spine as he leaned in.
Though I suppressed my inner turmoil caused by the flooding butterflies, taking in consideration of my position. I was trapped between the ‘helping hand’ of the 6 feet tall, handsome & really attractive- basketball guy and the cold surface of almirah.
To say it suddenly started to feel hot would be an understatement. It felt as if the clock had stopped ticking; the event seemed so enchanting that maybe a mere blink might have ruined some moments of it.
I then felt our hands touch when he placed the basketball (which I noticed way later, for obvious reasons ifykyk.) on the upper shelf where the container was placed along with my rackets.
“All done.” He mumbled as he was just inches away from my body, still trying to maintain a respectful distance. ‘Aise ladke real life mein v exist karte hain?’ I thought to myself, still gazing hard on the handsome marad in front of me.
“Th-thank you-” My voice was hoarse and feeble, as I tried to stabilize my emotions. “No problem!” He gave a subtle smile and headed out while I was processing all the events that took place in a span of what- 15 minutes!?
I stood dumbfounded when I realized that I didn't even ask his name. The only thing that caught my attention apart from his attractive face was the golden badge fixed on his jersey that read, ‘Sports Captain’.
[For context, here Akshit is the
Sports Captain.]I felt all giddy and nervous from within, maybe I have found my first crush. Honestly speaking, never in my sweetest dream had I thought that I might fall for a guy in our school but maybe the basketball guy was an exception.
