"Holy shit these things are like the size of my face!" Missy exclaimed as her pancakes were placed in front of her. Roger laughed and nodded.
"Best place for a quick bite. Right around the corner from my place. The pharmacy's also right here which is a good thing. And watch your mouth." Roger said digging into his waffles with a pound of pounder sugar on it.
Missy eyed the pile of sugar as Roger finally stopped putting it on.
" cavities can cost up to $100 to $1,150 per tooth to repair. That's why mom could never afford getting mine fixed." Missy blurted out. Roger looked up at her confused and she thought she did something wrong.
"Well... good thing I've got a good pay roll." Roger chuckled as he ate.
Missy only looked down at lap and played with her thumps.
"I was just joking Missy, don't worry about the pancakes they won't give you cavities right off the bat." Roger assured though that wasn't the thing Missy worried about.
"Uh... okay I guess." Missy said and turned to the window.
'Nice going Rog, now you've made her uncomfortable' Roger thought to himself and slapped his four head before swiftly changing the subject.
"So just so you know tomorrow we're gonna have to run into the studio for a bit. I think my buddy John has a kid your age actually." Roger said taking another huge bite of his waffle.
"Really? You seem a bit young to be having kids. How olds John?" Missy asked.
"Younger than me actually, him and his wife got married this spring after Robert constantly nagged John about it that cheeky kid." Roger smiled.
Missy thought of the idea of having a friend that close. She never really made friends back in the orphanage, they always came in and out. And the only time she did make a friend it ended in disaster.
Once the two of them got back in the car, stomachs full and meds in hand Roger began to drive into the city. Missy looked out the window in aw. She'd never been in such a nice area of London before.
Roger pulled up in front of an apartment building. "Here we are." He said getting out of the car and going around to open Missy's door.
Roger buzzed them in, unlocking the apartment door and letting Missy in. She wasn't exactly expecting such the mess. Cardboard boxes all around and unwashed dishes.
"Is that a goldfish?" Missy asked pointing at the sad looking tank with a small gold fish in it.
"Yeah, that's Goldie .Sorry, I didn't have much time to clean before you got here. Me and my partner have been pretty... not great lately but you'll see him soon." Roger apologized.
"Him?" Missy asked turning around. Roger nodded.
"Something wrong with that?" He asked and Missy shook her head no.
"Just not a lot of openly gay men in a band. A famous rock band at that." Missy said.
"We're not that famous yet. Are we?" Roger asked.
"Killer Queen plays all the time on the radio at the front desks of the orphanage. Like all the time." Missy smiled a bit.
"Well, maybe we are famous then." Roger smiled.
"Or one hit wonders." Missy teased.
"Oh Freddie's gonna love you. Come on I'll show you your room." Roger said waving her down the hall. Missy flung her bag back over her shoulder and slowly followed him.
Roger cracked the door open to reveal a small room. Maybe a bit bigger than the one in the orphanage. Regular white sheets and some fun star shaped pillows.
"I wasn't sure what you liked yet so I tried my best. We can fix whatever you want up, John, one of my band mates of was taking about is kinda an engineer so whatever you what or need you got it." Roger said.
"It's all mine?" Missy turned to Roger and he nodded. She lunged at him for a hug.
"Thank you, thank you so much!" She smiled jumping up and down.
Roger knew at that point he did the right thing taken in that girl.
**********************************************"So you'll start school next week, my friend Brian will be in charge of that. We'll go to the studio tomorrow to kinda meet everyone but I also gotta get work done. Then we'll come back here, Freddie and Mary will probably come round for dinner too but you'll get to pick whatever you want to eat of course. And if you need anything my room is down the hall and the bathroom is the next room over from yours." Roger said at he tucked Missy into bed.
"Okay, can you just... never mind." Missy said.
"No what is it?" Roger questioned
"Can you crack the door a bit before you leave. I don't like the dark. I know it sounds childish but it's true." Missy admitted.
Roger smirked. "Can I tell you a secret?" Roger asked. Missy sat up.
"I'm scared of the dark too. I'll be more than happy to leave the door open just a crack." He winked.
"Thank you," Missy smiled.
"Night kiddo." Roger said flicking off the lights and leaving the door open just a crack.
Roger sighed in relief. He walked to the phone and rung up Brian.
"So, you actually made it a day with her and didn't give her back?" Were the first things out of Brian's mouth.
"I told you Bri I'm more than capable of taking care of her." Roger protested.
"Mhh yeah I guess you're right. Anyways when do we meet her?" Brian asked.
"Who do you mean by we?" Roger asked.
"Me and Chrissy and the rest of the band." Oh yeah Chrissy.
"Tomorrow at the studio. She starts school with you next week." Roger replied.
"Looking forwards to it. And I want all my shit back by then." Brian huffed.
"Yeah yeah it's all in boxes by the door. Making my place a fucking shit hole."
"Your place? It's OUR place."
"Not with you not here." Roger crossed his arms.
"Roger how many times do I have to tell you I'm not mad at you. It wasn't your fault." Brian's voice eased up.
"Likely story."
"Rog-" Roger banged the phone back in the wall before Bri could finish.
"I'm gonna be the best fucking dad ever, you see." He muttered to himself
