They speak in whispers to him. They were constant, never raised their voices so it was easy for the boy to ignore them when he needed to. It was pleasant to him. They would have meaning full conversations and he would help their loved ones to be at peace but on February 10, 2003 one voice yelled for Kellin Quinn's attention.
There were more than two dozen people all in black surrounding a casket waiting to being buried six feet underground. The day was coming to an end as the sky of blue turned into a mixture of dark brown and red. The wind was blowing at a slow rate but just enough to move the black silky hair that laid on Kellin Quinn's head. Many mouths had the taste of salt as streams of tears fell down their face.
With most people sniffling and blowing into tissues, Kellin leaned against the wall of an old Mexican church concentrating. He had only been there for a few short minutes but this voice, this voice would not leave him be. It was whispering to low and too fast. He couldn't understand and it troubled him. His fists tightened as he tired to understand the message but with all his might, he couldn't decode it. The smell of decaying bodies filled his nostrils meaning that death was near and that damn voice had something to do with it.
After a while he grew tired of the voice not making any sense. He stood up straight from the wall and began to walk out of the church's grave yard until it became clear. It hit him like a bow arrow to his heart. His eyes widened as the voice shouted. It vibrated the ground up to his chest and then to his ears. He understood now. The voice finally made it through. It yelled giving Kellin all this information. Kellin was in a frazzled as the voice's whispered into a loud panic shout. The voice became apparent and manifested it's self as the boy in the casket. It was 20 year old Victor Vicente Fuentes.
"Please Kellin!" Vic yelled. "Please help me! Everyone is grave danger and you're the only one who can help me. If you go they'll all die."
Kellin stopped in his tracks to look at the casket where the boy was retained in. "What do you mean Vic? Why will every one die?"
"I...I messed with the wrong people." He spoke in a rushed panicked tone. "I didn't mean to but they think I did. They are trying to get back at me by doing this. Their crazy people but I'd never stoop to their level though. You must understand Kellin. Please tell me you heard me this time."
"I do, I do. But who did you mess with? " Kellin was being to worry. He has never been in this kind of position. This was out of the norm.
"I messed with Los Vatos locos..." Vic knew the result of anyone messing with them. He knew this was all his fault. I
"You're joking? Out of every gang I'm Sam Diego how did you end up on their bad side. What-how? This is crazy."
"I know but I messed with them BY ACCIDENT." He said exaggerated the by accident part. "They want revenge and killing me wasn't enough for them and now they are trying to kill my family too. I didn't mean to though. I was just trying to help. I didn't know that they would kill me or else I wouldn't of ever dialed the cops. Shoot Kellin! I messed with the worst gang in San Diego. I hear it ticking."
"Yeah, no sh.it you messed with the wrong people." Kellin was still at the front entrance of the church it was now sitting dawn with his hands in his hair. At the very most the was terrified. This isn't what he does. He talks to the dead to help heal but now he's dealing with Los Valtos Locos. He was screwed. "Okay, Vic, tell me. Are there coming to kill everyone?"
"Time is running out and they're going to die Kellin! Don't let Los Vatos win."
"Vic you're not answering my questions. Are they coming here? I need to know if I have time to call the police."
"Sh.it Kellin. You need to save them! The bomb. It's ticking. Time is running out! The cops can't do anything, except you."
"Bomb?" This word captured Kellin's attention. His hear started beating faster then before. This was not what he did. "Where is it Vic? Do I have time to call SWAT or something? I'm only 18. This is fuc.king crazy." Kellin asked getting up from the ground. He began walking around searching for where a bomb could be hiding. The thought of it going off scared him. He was afraid but he knew he couldn't just let all these people die when he could have saved them.
"You're my only hope ,Kellin. You're the only one who can save them." Vic's voice started to die out and soften again. Tears started to fall from Kellin's eyes but not because of Vic's passing but of how much of a carry this is to him. He had to disarm a bomb knowing if he didn't find it in time, everyone would be dead. "It's... It's In my heart. It's waiting to explode. Kellin...I feel it."
"In your heart? How you're dead." But at the end of that sentence Kellin had put all the strings together. He turned in his stand and ran to the casket. As he ran, screams exploded as Kellin pulled out a pocket knife. As if the universe knew what dread will come in the few short moments she changed her warmth of the afternoon sky to a sad gray black. The wind picked up yelling the danger Vic had put Kellin in but Kellin couldn't just stand there and let people be killed.
The boy who talked to the dead had thrown open the top of Vic's casket, tore off the shirt the boy was wearing revealing a line that was stitched on his chest. With the stich blade in Kellin's hand he cut open the decaying skin to reveal numbers counting down. However, Kellin thought fast covering the bomb to stop it from exploding. He had seen it once before on a show. From that quick glance he knew the bomb had no wires, it would only go off if pressure was removed from the device. If the tears never started before hand they were definitely starting now. He knew what was about to become of him.
"Oh, and Kellin, they might kill you know." Vic said with a evil laugh. "They're coming for you now. Oh boy and you in trouble now. You just tampered with their plans just like I did thinking you'll help someone. Ha, the irony."
Kellin was at a standstill as his hands were placed over the bomb. "But, why me? What have I done?" Kellin starred at Vic's corps. "I was just trying to help."
"So was I but looks like you're going down with me too. Once your hands let go of that bomb it'll explode ensuring you die too. I'm not going down by myself. Someone needs to feel the pain I have along with the pain my family has to face with my passing. You were an easy target."
The laugh of Vic echoed in the back of Kellin's mind as he held the button down. It took a long time for the police and SWAT team to arrive. But when they did the bomb was disarmed with out anyone getting harmed. Throughout the whole time Vic had been telling Kellin Los Vatos Locos would get him for not letting the bomb exploded.
As time passed on Los Vatos Locos tried to kill Kellin multiple times but he was able to escape death each time. Kellin had to leave the state then country to escape them. He when to the UK, China, South America, and Canada but that's a whole other story. Vic's spirit was always with him. Till the every end.
However, in the end, Vic got what he wanted.
