The announcement

Mum and Dad were strict parents. It didn't help them being in the national sorcerer army which went out on missions rarely and trained in harsh conditions most of the time. They trained us in the same conditions and controlled what we'd do or say.

Growing up like that made you a paranoid freak: talking like a robot around your parents and checking to see if they were there when not around them. Stares would come my way as I walked like an actual soldier, right foot half a meter in front then vice versa. You would get hit if it was a centimeter over.

The days seemed long and tiring with the fear of looming pain if you said one word that isn't patriotic or did something not in the schedule.

One night we were sitting in the living room (I was 8 at the time) reading our propaganda when the radio interrupted it's usual classical music to make an announcement.

"Ladies and gentleman this country is at war with the creatures known as the Blood Society. These people are hell bent on consuming all human life for their gain. We as sorcerers are to protect the humans and kill all blood society members. May our gods protect us and may we not die in vain"

The announcers voice was hollow and emotionless as the atmosphere became cold and still. A war was happening as we prayed for safety.
