"To the florist whose blooms I’ve never seen…"The ink, faded and uneven, is all across the yellowed paper, its letters penned in a hurried but neat hand. The parchment rests behind a thin glass case. Visitors to the maritime museum gather around, reading the plaque beside it,
“The Last Letter of Captain Kim Taehyung, discovered sealed in a bottle on the rocky shores of Busan, six days after the captain’s untimely death during the Battle of the Baltic Sea. Dated: January 1, 1897.”
A middle-aged man leans closer, his glasses slipping down the bridge of his nose. “What did it say?” he murmurs to his wife.
She squints, her fingers tracing the glass as if she could feel the captain’s words beneath her fingertips. “They say it was a love letter… To someone he never met. A florist, I think. Isn’t that strange?”
“Romantic, perhaps,” another voice adds, a young woman with a camera slung around her neck, snapping a picture of the letter.
“A man of war, writing to a man of flowers. What a contrast…”
Behind the glass, the ink seems almost alive, the words yearning to tell their story, to breathe once more.
Six days—that’s all it took for the bottle to find its way to shore. Swept in by the frigid waters, carried over waves. The glass was thick and fogged with salt when it was found by a fisherman, caught between rocks, the stopper sealed tight as if the sea itself wished to keep its secret hidden forever.
The letter was soaked, nearly unreadable, but the name was clear: Jeon Jungkook. No rank, no title, just a name. A florist in a town far away from where the captain perished.
Who was this Jungkook, to hold such a place in the heart of a man who had never seen his face? And so begins the tale of Captain Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook, a love born not of sight or touch, but of words written across paper.
A love that never had the chance to bloom, and yet... was it ever more alive?
