The trek into the jungle was slow, the dense undergrowth forcing you to cut a path. Every step was a cautious one. Luka had removed the top to his black-and-gold pirate garb, revealing a white shirt underneath. He led the way, cutting through the foliage, his cutlass slicing through vines as the distant light ahead hinted at an opening.
Occasionally, you heard the distant rustle of leaves or the snap of a twig, but nothing visible stirred. Just the sense of being watched heightened.
"Keep your eyes sharp," Kian murmured, trailing the group and defending from the back. "If anything moves, call out."
Minutes stretched into an hour, and the deeper you went, the more the unease settled into your bones. But eventually, the thick forest began to thin. A break in the trees ahead revealed a small clearing, a meadow of tall grass, dotted with scattered boulders, and massive trees standing tall.
Kian stopped at the edge, taking in the sight with wide eyes. "This is perfect."
You stepped forward, eyeing the perimeter. The clearing offered enough space to set up a whole village and the boulders provided some natural cover.
"We'll set up here for the night," Luka said, already dropping his pack. "Tomorrow, we build up our new village."
The villagers wasted no time, unpacking supplies and starting on the shelter. Fires were lit, and the flicker of flames brought a small measure of comfort. But even as the camp was being set up, the unease never left you.
Kian walked to your side, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword, he knew what you were feeling, he could see the concern in your eyes.
"We have to keep watch in pairs and take shifts... No one watches alone tonight."
You nodded, watching as the last light of the sun faded, leaving the meadow bathed in the pale glow of the rising moon. The jungle around you remained dark, the tall trees swaying gently in the wind. You couldn't help but feel that something, or someone, was out there. Waiting.
"We'll find out what this land holds soon enough," you muttered under your breath, your hand tightening around the hilt of your golden blade.
Night had fully descended, and the first watch had begun. You glanced toward Kian, who stood vigilant near the fire, his eyes scanning the shadows beyond. The rest of the group settled down to rest, their murmurs fading as the night wore on.
But you couldn't shake the sense that whatever lurked in the jungle was watching. Closer now. And it was only a matter of time before it revealed itself.

The night was quiet at first. The gentle crackling of the campfire was the only sound breaking through the stillness. You had laid torches around the perimeter, lighting up the camp. And the faint rustle of leaves was barely audible over the soft breathing of the sleeping villagers.
You and Kian decided to take the first watch, but Luka eventually emerged from his tent, looking visibly annoyed.
"Can't sleep?" You asked him, speaking from experience.
"Nope. Too much on my mind." He replied, taking a seat on a wooden log.
"No? Okay, maybe I could give it a shot." Kian said with enthusiasm, keeping the spirits high. But as he took a step toward the tent, a distant groan pierced the air stopping him dead in his tracks. It was faint, but very much audible, then grew louder, it was growing closer.
