Another day passed, but I decided to still stay with her in this place. It's not like I have anything better to do. She seems lonely all the time, so she might as well keep her company.
"You seem to have become familiar with the place quite fast, huh?" I said as I greeted her, "So still moon gazing for the night as usual?"
"Well, not really. I just want to chill tonight, you know." She replied with a gentle smile, "Oh, and send my thanks to Iris for the clothes here. I can't believe she can even regenerate my old clothes here."
The sun is slowly setting as I and her trail along the road, surrounded by trees and small buildings. The place seems like an old Japanese village. How bizarre. "If Iris is the maker of this place and we were just dwellers in her world, then how come she chose this place out of everything?" I thought to myself, but I shrugged off the thought, thinking maybe she just liked it. Who am I to judge another person's taste? The yellow sunset reflecting on her casual clothing and white hair is a dreamy scene to the eyes, not gonna lie.
"What are you looking at? Is there something interesting to see?" She asked as she returned to approach me.
"Just the setting sun and a white comet along with it," I answered.
"It seems the people here are hosting an event or something, right?" She said as she pointed to the makeshift stalls near the river, "Is the Tanabata festival a thing here as well?"
The placement seems like it, but I am not quite sure, so I just asked her if she wanted to check it out, and to no surprise, she agreed excitedly.
Yeah, needless to say, it's not going to be the typical thing you would expect to see. By the time night falls, the lights are there. The stalls are there. But there are no humans to be seen along with the lively atmosphere you would typically see. just an empty feeling and another sad reminder that this is a place I created. There is no one else here aside from me and her, and occasionally Iris herself. You can imagine the disappointment in her eyes when all we see is just empty stalls accompanied by silence.
"I guess we are a bit too early, right?" She asked with a forced smile.
"Yes, you're probably right. The sun just settled after all, so they are, um, just preparing to come here," I replied.
It's clear we both understood the situation, but what else can we really do? I suppose it's just the irony of life. You seek liveliness, and what do you find? silence. and when you try to seek silence, the annoyance of sounds keeps bugging you without forgiveness.
"Hey, uh, I think they won't mind if I use the stalls for a bit, so want some takoyaki?" I offered her, "You must be hungry now, right?"
"Don't forget to pay them," she smiled a bit.
We ended up just walking around the place. just me and her. Surrounded by the empty stalls. enjoying the small snacks as we talk about just casual things like the food we like, our hobbies, and stuff like that. Well, at least it's not as bad as I thought it would be. We eventually sat down at the riverbank nearby.
"Well, you seem to have fun in the end, right?" I smiled slightly.
"Yeah, it's been a long time since the last time I have ever been to these kinds of places," she said as she relaxed herself and lay down on the grass.
"a long time?"
"Mhm, a very long, boring time indeed," she sighed. "So what about you?"
"Oh, nah, I'm not interested in these kinds of things," I replied.
With my response, our conversation died, leaving place for silence. Well, I suppose it happens when you run out of things to say or just simply don't know what to say next. We simply gaze back at the village on the other side of the river. The lights are on, but I know it's simply background props. There is no one here, just us.
