The trees have Eyes

Into the woods

The cold air is kind of suffocating driving up this mountain. Or maybe its cause Ren was driving too fast. It didn't matter, the trees were fading from green to orange. Fall is approaching. The mountains are already so beautiful now imagine a sunset with it. This was THE life, going to the mountains 18 years young and with the sweetest friend group. Ren, Londyn, Tamara and Grace. I had met them all in school and this year we are all now graduated, it's weird being an adult now because tomorrow Grace and I have college and Londyn has a big girl job. Once we got up the mountain we found a good spot near a stream and we decided to walk down it. 

The sun was really setting now but thankfully we brought flashlights in case. The air was smooth, you could smell the freshness of nature. Once we found a spot to stop I took pictures and everyone else did their own thing and eventually it was time to go. We took out our flashlights even though they weren't really needed. It was dark. We reached the car and started to head down blasting music with the windows down. Londyn pulled out her dispo and offered a hit.. Who could decline? We all got high and had conversations while enjoying the drive. A couple songs passed and I started to feel like it was taking a lot longer to reach the bottom. Usually the scenery changes at the bottom compared to the top but 15 minutes had gone by of the same scenery. I was about to say something before Grace did. We all looked at our phones and noticed the time change. This wasn't right Ren must've been driving slow. "How fast are you going?" I asked. "30?" Ren said, confused. "We're high you guys and driving in pitch darkness we probably are near the bottom". But the speed limit on the road is only 30 if you are still high up in the mountain. I didn't say anything. 

Ren put on a banger and we all just enjoyed the ride again. But another 15 minutes had gone by and the same thing. I heard a car warning sound and right after "Guys I'm almost out of gas" Ren said. This is when things started to get real.. There's no service up here and its pitch its dark. "We have to be near the bottom we've been driving for 30 minutes now" Londyn said. Ren pulled over and we were all scared.. If we run out of gas we are stranded for the night up here until we can find service, or someone finds us. We all went over our options and decided to keep driving down because if we ran out of gas we could probably walk to the bottom and call for help. Now 20 minutes had gone by.. And the car started to buffer before coming to a complete halt. "Oh hell nahhhh" I say. We all look at eachother in fear knowing whats next. I cant miss school, neither can Grace. Londyn needs to go to work and who knows how Ren and Tamaras family will react when they realize we havent came back from the mountains. 

I cant afford to miss school and my dad would be so mad if I stayed the night in the mountains stranded. I had to walk down and get service to call someone. We had to be close by now this wasn't physically possible. "I'm gonna walk, who's coming? We have flashlights and we should be close." I say looking at all of them. "Fuck it" Ren says. The other 3 decided to stay in the car while Ren and I left. We both turn on our flashlights and waved bye to them. "This is horrifying" I say.. "We just need to be careful of mountain lions, dont run if one approaches us." Ren says. The walk is peaceful and it looked like we were actually near the bottom now. Thank god.
