Murdoch awoke the next morning, seeing the yard of Vicarstown had not changed overnight

"Wake up you two, we have another day of the purge to go through," Said the 9F.

"Can you let me rest, i'm tired," Said Diesel as he woke up.

"Good morning," Said Harvey.

"So, what do you want to talk about now?" Asked Murdoch.

"You could talk about letting me rest, first I was overworked, and now I have to survive with two loud mouth steamies," Snapped Diesel.

"No reason to be like that Diesel, Murdoch almost died getting here, would you rather him die then survive?" Said Harvey, who was to get angry with Diesel.

"Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, his whistle was too loud anyway," Groaned Diesel.

"That's it, I can't put up with you anymore, I'm leaving," Huffed Murdoch as he left the shed.

"Stay safe Murdoch," Said Harvey.

Murdoch left the yard and went down the line toward Crovan's Gate.

"Since Diesel can say awful things about me, I guess I can say some about him. I wish Vicarstown was attacked and he was killed," Said Murdoch.

"Murdoch, don't say things like that, two wrongs don't make a right," Said the driver.

"Fine," Huffed Murdoch.

The three stayed silent, till they reached Crovan's Gate, where they found a few survivors.

"Henry, Sir Handel, Rusty, Bertram, thank God you all are alright," Said a now happy Murdoch.

"I can say the same to you," Henry huffed happily.

"What happened to you?" Sir Handel asked.

"Well, I was at Knapford with Emily and Fergus when gunfire rang out because of the purge. Fergus crashed into some trucks while me and Emily ran in our separate directions. I hid in Henry's Tunnel for the rest of the day, but while I was in there, Gordon raced past with his express, yelling his was runaway, but I couldn't do anything. During the night I sprinted to Vicarstown, hoping the bridge was up, but it was not. I stayed at Vicarstown with Diesel and Harvey till today, when Diesel said something and I had to leave,"

"All that's important to our story is we are the only narrow gauge survivors,"said Sir Handel.

"I was actually here when the purge started. I was with Bear, Duke and Rheneas, and raced off because of gunfire. As me and Bear passed the junction to Kirk Ronan, he was sent down the branchline while I stayed on the mainline. I raced to Cronk and stayed there, where I started to break down about everything. The next day, Duck and Emily found me, Emily stayed with me while Duck went up to The Ironworks. Emily calmed me down and yesterday, Arry and Bert came. They told us that Duck had left to search for Oliver, which we knew was a lie because we never saw him go by that night. Emily went with the diesels to The Ironworks while I came here. However, on the way, I searched The Kirk Ronan Branch, but only found several dead bodies, and the corpses of Bear and Derek. I then came here, found these three and I think you know the rest,"

"Sorry but what was Emiy's story, she had to have told you with all the time you spent at Cronk," Murdoch Said.

"Oh, right. I'll start with Emily's story, which goes into Duck's story. Emily told me after she fled Knapford, she hid in Tidmouth Sheds with Oliver and Toad. The next day she decided to get her passengers to The Ironworks for their safety. Oliver didn't want to go out, so he stayed in the sheds. She found Duck and the remains of Toby at Tidmouth Station. Duck said he fled Callan, he spent the night at Callan Castle. The next day he went back down the branchline, passing Donald's corpse at Callan. He also wanted to get to The Ironworks and went with Emily once they found out they had the same goal. On their way, they found Percy and Daisy at Elsbridge. Daisy said she had been at Elsbridge the entire time. Percy said he had been at Wellsworth with Edward when the purge started. Both ran their separate ways as Percy was shot in the ckeek. He raced back to Elsbridge and saw Thomas, his coaches and Ben race past. Both green engines didn't tell Percy about Toby's death since he was starting to fall apart mentally. They then went further down the line, but found BoCo at Wellsworth. BoCo said he was at Brendam with Bill and Ben, who ran off to race at the start of the broadcast. After the broadcast, Brendam was shot up and he ran to Wellsworth, seeing Thomas and Edward race by on the way. After his story, they split up again as BoCo headed down The Brendam Branch. They passed James's corpse at Maron, came here and you know the rest,"

"So that was James's corpse, I couldn't tell who it was in the dark. By the way, as I raced through Crosby, I saw an engine had crashed in the yard, but I couldn't tell who it was,"

I think it was Bill, considering how you didn't see him pass you, and Percy and Daisy only saw Ben," Henry said.

"Well I hope they're alright. I want to head up the line more to Knapford or Wellsworth, if it's alright with you," Murdoch said.

"It's alright, I would rather stay here, but for you, be safe,"

"Alright, Diesel and Harvey are at Vicarstown if you need them," Murdoch said as he started off.

Murdoch went slowly down the line, as much as he hated the purge for killing some of his friends, he kind of liked it for giving him peace and quiet at times. He stayed silent, as did he crew, well till he got to Maron.

"Your boasting may have gotten on my nerves at times, but you didn't deserve a fate like this, goodbye," Murdoch said, trying not to cry.

Murdoch quickly started up again and went over the hill. He pulled into Wellsworth, where he found a few more survivors.

"Salty, BoCo, Arthur, thank God you all are alright,"

"We can say the same to you Murdoch, what happened to you?" Arthur said.

After Murdoch told his story, the others told theres.

"I was at The Fishing Village when the purge was announced. I stayed there all day on the first. One the second day, I didn't want to get in anyone's way, so I stayed at the village on the second. On the third, I went down the line to try and look for survivors. When I got to Callan, I found Donald dead. I was about to leave when people came out of nowhere and started shooting us, hence why I have the scar. I then went to Tidmouth, where I found Toby's corpse. I didn't know about Oliver and Toad in the sheds, so I didn't stop there. Knapford was a mess of dead bodies, as well as the corpses of Gordon and Fergus. Gordon has gone into the siding Fergus was in and ripped him up, while the big engine's face was horrible. I went further down the line, but only found Bill's corpse at Crosby. Bill had crashed into some trucks and had been shot, and had scars. I then came to Wellsworth, I think BoCo can tell the rest," Arthur said.

"Well, after I left Wellsworth, Thomas passed by with Annie and Clarabel, saying he was heading to Ffaruhar. I then passed Trevor's corpse and the ruins of the orchard. I then passed by Edward's wreck, he had crashed at Suddery and he, his coaches, and everyone in his train were dead. I went onto Brendam and found Salty, who had fought most of the purgers and had gotten several scars. We then went back to Wellesworth, where we stayed till Arthur came,"

"After your story Murdoch, I don't think Arry, Bert and Diesel 10 can be trusted," Salty said.

"Well then, I'm going to The Ironworks to see what their game is," BoCo said as he left his siding.

"BoCo wait, going there right now might not be best," Murdoch said.

"It might be better if only one goes, in case anything goes wrong," BoCo said as he got onto the mainline.

"Do you think he will survive or die?" Arthur said.

"Die. Do you think we should try to head to Elsbridge to look for Thomas and the others?" Murdoch said.

"No, Thomas and his branchline are strong. We should stay here and not get in the way of anything they might be getting into," Arthur said.

"Well then I guess we are staying here the rest of the day,"

And so they did. Although they worried for BoCo, they had a small glimmer of hope he would survive. Nothing else beside talking really happened the rest of the day. Soon, night came and they went to sleep, not knowing what the rest of the purge would bring.
