The Start of It All

Two semesters.

Two semesters into your first year at ORBIT. A rich-kid college focused on around Psychology, Astronomy/Astrology, and Writing majors. And, surprisingly, you haven't made any friends.

Granted, most of the students here would rather die than talk to a student who's here on a scholarship. If you didn't have this full-ride, you would've never been here anyway.

And while having no friends was lonely, you'd rather be at ORBIT than anywhere else. It got you away from your father, it gave you an excuse to pack up and leave that awful town you grew up in. It got you away from everyone and everything you hated. Including...

You sucked in some air, shaking your head lightly as you stared at the ground. You're not there anymore. You're here, at ORBIT, the college of your dreams.

And you're walking towards the little house on campus that ORBIT gave you, a special treat on top of the full ride you were awarded.

You unlock your door, and walk in, being greeted by silence and the smell of apples and cinnamon coming from your wax warmer.

You immediately throw your book bag onto the floor and flop on the couch, turning on YouTube as you fished your phone out from your pocket.

'I'm not too hungry...I'll probably just skip dinner for tonight.' You thought, scrolling through Instagram.

If you skipped dinner tonight, you might be able to skip out on grocery shopping this week. Which means..no leaving the house!

"Man, I'm so smart." You said aloud to nobody.

You scrolled through a couple more posts before getting off, suddenly feeling a sense of queasiness after you saw so, so many of your old friends having fun.

You decided to click on a random word search game you had downloaded a while back. The game was annoying sometimes because of the constant ads, but you had gotten used to it.

You'll put up with anything for your word searches.

As soon as your word search loaded in, a dark blue and purple ad had popped up, immediately catching your eye.

The ad read:

Are you really THIS desperate to make some friends?

Yes, yes you are.

You clicked on the ad, immediately pressing download.

As you watched it download, you couldn't help but feel...nervous? It was always nerve wracking to meet new people for you.

But..this was all online. You wouldn't have to worry about things you originally would. Like wondering if you look alright, if you're stuttering or saying "um" too much, being too sweaty, etc...

You looked down, forgetting about your mid-life crisis as you realized it finished downloading.

You clicked open, allowing a dark blue screen take up your vision.
