Demetri was already at my dorm house early in the morning. He looked happy and great, but I looked terrible. I had a pounding headache, my hair was a mess, I was hungry, (but not going to feed from Dem), and I had bags under my eyes. My movements were also slow and tiring.

Vampires needed sleep. It was very important. We could go on for days without sleep. But when we actually needed to sleep, we needed no interruptions. Our body is working 24/7 non-stop. If we didn't get sleep, we would actually look like zombies. PLus, it was easier for bloodlust to take over.

"Whoa what happened to you?" Bri asked me. She was having coffee with Dem. They were just happy people sitting in my kitchen.

I banged my head on the counter. I turned around slowly and glared at Dem. I pointed my finger at him. "You."

"What about me?" He asked.

Rid shuffled over to Dem. Her fangs were bared and she reached for Dem's neck. "I'm going to kill you."

Bri grabbed Rid and pushed her to a chair. "You and Zo, look like shit. What happened?"

"Full moon. Wolf's. Howl. Sensitive ears bled. No sleep." I muttered. I grabbed a mug of blood. It wouldn't help my hunger. Only blood from the vein could help. My knees buckled. I grabbed onto the counter.

Demetri sped and grabbed my waist. I was too tired to even think about Eli when Dem touched me. I just wanted to skeeo so bad. But I couldn't. I wish I was nocturnal. Life would be so much easier. He kept me up. I pushed him away weakly. "Go away."

"I got you. Why don't you get some sleep then?

"They can't. Vampires sleep only once a day." Bri sipped her coffee. "Its a vampy thing I guess. It only applys to Daywalkers."

"That's stupid." Demetri lead me to a chair. "Then what can help?"

"Blood from the vein." Bri said. "Great, my vampire today might be a little rough."

Dem looked at me. "I'm your thrall, take some."

"Never take blood from you." I mumbled incoherent words and thumped my head on the table.

"I'm going to Jonathan." Rid stood up and shuffled outside. He was a warlock and she had a huge crush on him. Their relationship was really unusual though. He was her thrall and poor guy couldn't handle it sometimes. He was a good guy though and so romantic.

Dem held out his wrist, distracting me from my scrambled thoughts. He bit it with his fangs. He had two sets. One on his upper teeth and one on his lower. I looked at the punctures. I shoved him away.

"Take."

"No." I mumbled.

Dem grabbed my neck. He forced my lips to his wrist. I fought weakly, and Dem won. His sweet blood touched my dry lips. My fangs extended and I took Dem's blood. My eyes sparked. I pulled back. I felt a little better and Eli was in the trash of my mind. Eli would never do that for me.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. I told you, I'm here for you."

I nodded. "Well lets get outside. Might as well see the effect you werewolves have on vampires."

Demetri nodded. "Great."

We walked outside. Vampires were snippy and snapping at everyone. Some were feeding viciously on their thralls in public. Which was prohibited. Rose had a worried expression on her face. "The vampires aren't too happy. Are you okay Zoey?"

"A little."

"Where Burnett?" Demetri asked.

"Asleep. The Shift had an effect on him. Like real bad." Rose sighed. "Zoey, Kylie and Rae called."

My eyes grew wide. "What?"

"Yes come into my office. Do you want Demetrius to hear?"

"Yeah." I said. Why not? He helped me. And the guy was like a tick. Attached never letting go.

"You sure? It's about you know." The mob. Great.

I nodded. "He can hear." Maybe then he'll go away.

We all walked in her office. She sat down at her desk. I sat down on a chair and Dem sat next to me. "Kylie and Rae called because they need you. There's something big going on and it can connect to your parents. Your Godfather will need you too. Kylie and Rae are in a little bit of a problem. Werewolves again. If you get caught though, the IPU will get you. Since I can't talk you out of this, you will talk to Kylie. I'l lgive you permission to be let out and go fix this. But I didn't hear this, okay? Demetri will come with you to make sure you don't lose control and to be your thrall."

I nodded. "Alright when do we leave?"

"Right now. The jet is here. I had someone pack your basic needs for the trip."

"Bye Rose."

She gave me a watery smile. "Can I hug you? I know you don't do hugs..."

"Alright. Lay one on me." I winced. I did hate hugs. It was awkward. But Rose hugged me. She squeezed me gently. She pulled away and then hugged Dem.

"We'll be fine."

"I know. Its just that when I first saw you..." Rose turned away from me. "Just go. I'll see you in a week."

I looked at my old neighborhood. East village. I sighed. Demetri looked at me. "You lived in New York?"

"Yeah." I looked behind me.

"You look paranoid."

"Yeah lets just say that I had unfinished business with some people." My hand twitched for my pewter daggers in my boots.

"You're immortal now."

"And the people who I had problems with are immortals."

"Oh." Dem whispered.

I nodded. "See? I rest my case."

"Zoey Rogue!" I turned around quickly. I saw Rae running over to me.

I sighed in relief. "Hey."

"Hi." Rae hugged me. "Listen I have a sniper just in case things go awry from close up. The hit we're doing is Rick Henson. I heard he was involved with the murder. If things go bad, I'll be your back-up," She said, looking around. She had a knack for getting the the point, which I liked a lot.

I nodded. "Alright. I need a handgun. Just in case things get ugly."

Demetri looked at me in shock. "Who the hell are you?"

I smiled devilishly. "Know how to use a gun?"
