our new chapter

Too afraid
Tongues tied with what we wanted to say
But was never said
And our feelings failed to reach each day.

Walking away with your back faced to me
A piercing silence was all I heard
A shriveling silhouette was all I could see
You just left without a word.

Time failed to erode the pain
The struggle to forget met with fruitlessness
As I remembered your words of disdain
All efforts at moving on was almost pointless.

Right when the summit was in view
A familiar figure outlined amongst the snowy gust
Who it was my heart immediately knew
But my mind beseeched he was a thing of the past.

Although I painstakingly shoved you at the back of my head
Just like how you left hushedly
You came back with nothing said
To the forefront of my thoughts and overwhelmed me.

So I fell
Right back down to the start
Where all was not well
As if I never even attempted to move on or part.

All of a sudden everything was in shambles and chaos
Feelings sedulously buried deep within awoken
Aside was efforts of disregarding you tossed
And you became unforgotten.

Gone was my resolution of a life without you
Where I would be much less happier
But I'd still pull through and make do
And live an eternity of lonely torture.

But you extended a hand
Offering to reach the summit together
To give our journey another chance to amend
Letting our previous memories regather.

But our previous path is now covered in tears of snow
The perfect scenery we once admired before
Will never be shared even if you assiduously plow
Awaits us is dangerous uncertainty and so much more.

Yet away you wiped my tears
To new worlds you opened my doors
Despite our fears
I placed my hand in yours.

Together
We embarked as two different people from the past
And newly wrote our very own chapter
One that belongs to us and only us.
