I HAD COMPLETELY TORN APART my closet, looking for any trace of an intruder and found nothing.

I had left the room that night and tried to calm down, trying to find a logical reason for what I saw.

I was tired from the trip and my mind was playing tricks on me.

That suggestion seemed reasonable enough, but for safety purposes I had my dad take off the closet doors.

If I'm going to be murdered by a ghost, I would rather not be woken up by creaky ass closet doors when it happens.

The next morning, Eddie and I drove to school in the jeep. It was an eerily quiet drive to the high school, before I broke the silence.

"Did you see anything weird last night?" I asked, my brows furrowed as I focused on the road.

"What like black mold or something?" The fifteen year old responded confused.

"No, dumbass! Like ghost shit!" I laughed slightly, before turning serious again.

"No, but it does kinda feel like we're being watched sometimes." He admitted, playing with the handle on top of his backpack. "Like this morning! I could have sworn I heard you humming in the kitchen, but when I got there, I was alone."

"There was something watching me from my closet last night. They were peeking through the closet doors when I was talking to dad. When I checked after he left, there was no one there."

"That's why you had dad take the doors off." Eddie stated, understanding the situation. "The church is haunted?"

"The church is haunted." I confirmed, as we pulled into the parking lot of the high school. "We'll get some sage and shit after school. Hopefully that'll mellow the place out until we can find a more permanent solution."

"Sounds like a plan."

UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN WE got inside, we were handed our schedules and sent off to a pep rally that was going on in the gym.

I visibly cringed when the kid talking into the mic, did a mic drop and it let out a high pitched screech.

"That looked expensive." Eddie commented, making me nod in agreement.

"What was the point of that?" I asked rhetorically, my brother and I tilting our heads to the left to try and figure out why everyone was being so extra.

As the pep rally ended, we went our separate ways and I attempted to find my locker.

"Need some help?"

My blue eyes shot up from the note with my locker number and combination on it, to find a very pretty brunette girl smiling at me.

"Hi! Yeah, I can't seem to find my locker!" I chuckled, adjusting my backpack on my shoulder. "I'm Sue, by the way."

"I'm Margot, and I'm guessing you're the new junior?" She greeted, taking a glance at the note with my locker number on it and leading me down the hall. "My dad's the guidance counselor, and apparently you and your brother are big news to the faculty."

"Yeah, we moved here from Oregon." I said simply. "We were initially supposed to finish the school year and then move, but something happened back home that kind of forced us out."

"Can I ask what it was or is that too personal?" Margot asked as we stopped in front of my new locker.

"There was an accident at my old school and two of my friends died." I admitted awkwardly, keeping it as vague as possible.

"Oh, shit! I'm so sorry!" She said with wide eyes, watching as I entered my combo and opened the locker.

"It's... fine." I stated, giving Margot an awkward smile. "You didn't know."

"How are you liking Port Lawrence so far?" She asked, quickly changing the subject.

"It's seems cool so far, but I haven't had much opportunity to explore the town." I admitted with a shrug, putting my jacket and hanging my book bag in my locker.

"Well, lucky for you, I'm volunteering to be your first friend and designated tour guide!" Margot joked, fiddling with her phone, before handing it to me. It was open to the 'new contact' page. "Put your number in, Sue."

"I don't have a choice here, do I?" I asked, putting my number in as saving it as 'Sue🌸', before handing her phone back.

"Nope!" The brunette chirped, holding out her hand. I opened the contacts app and opened up a new one before handing over my phone.

She typed in her number and handed it back. I saw that she'd put her contact in as 'Margot🦋'.

"Now let's see what classes, we have together!"

I sat in AP Lit, taking notes on the witch scene in Macbeth, when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"I love your earrings." The girl behind me whispered, so as to not draw the teacher's attention to us.

"Thanks, I got them on Etsy." I replied, pointing to the spiral teardrop earrings.

"I like you, you don't gatekeep fashion stuff." She said approvingly. "I'm Allison. You're the new girl, right?"

"Yeah, I'm Sue." I greeted politely, sending the other girl a kind smile.

"Well, Sue, you are invited to my Halloween party tomorrow night! I'll airdrop you the details!" Allison stated quietly, discreetly pulling out her phone and airdropping a TikTok to me.

I felt my phone buzz in my jacket pocket and stealthily pulled it out to check that I'd received the message. "Got it! Costumes yay or nay?"

"Absolutely! And you better not pull any punches because you are way too pretty to show up in a lame costume!"

"Understood, I won't disappoint!" I chuckled quietly, saluting the other girl.

"Ladies! Please pay attention, this will be on your test on Monday!" Ms. Holden said eyeing Allison and I.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Sorry!"
