As the sun radiated itself over the horizon of Devon, Sarah Dawson awoke to someone pulling her hair. Her eyes slowly fluttered open to see her toddler, their little fingers tangled in her dark brunette hair.

The woman tiredly smiled, gently helping the child, named Sophia, climb onto the bed, letting her sit nearby. Giggling, the child moved closer to her mother, putting her hands together and clapping. Sarah kept her daughter close, feeling her child relax at her hold.

These small moments, the mother and daughter had become mere memories of the past. Between the growing argument and miscommunication, they both barely interacted as they once were.

Maybe, it was that Sarah would end up divorcing her husband whom her daughter was remarkably close too, ending up also destroying their own relationship or how Sarah's youngest son fell sick, leading to the woman to spend all her time with him, nursing him back to health.

Either way, their relationship fell apart, now crumbled pictures of those happy moments hidden away in a cupboard.

Years continued past, the memories slowly fading in the darkness as Sophia began to show a side of herself that was buried deep inside her. The girl was taught from a young age that mischief was wrong, so she never pursed it, but she found herself alone in a battlefield. She began to embrace it, doing anything that made her laugh.

At the beginning of all of this, her mother watched, joy unnoticeably returning every time her daughter smiled or laughed. She was willing to risk the shade of her hair for her little girl. Yet, as time grew along with her daughter, the pranks strengthened, becoming something else.

She would dye her family's hair when the woman least expected it. She would prank the neighbours until they began to fear her. She would terrify the village until every step they took was always done with caution.

One night, Sarah asked her to stop. She didn't word it right but asked her to stop. The woman watched the village gossip about her parenting and began to feel insecure as many blamed it on her being a single mother.

But Sophia took it another way. The young girl, only nine years old, refused to stop her mischievous acts, explaining it was the only thing that kept her happy. The woman knew how hard it was to let of something, someone you cared deeply about, but once it got too much, she knew her daughter had to let go.

Another argument sprouted, being the worst one of them all. Her youngest son, Austin, only seven of age, covered his ears, remembering the trauma of his father's shouts and his mother's scream enter his young innocent mind, tears beginning to brim in his eyes.

Innocent and young.

Sophia continued to shout, trying her best to explain to the woman she once looked up to how much pulling jokes mattered to her. She had laughed like her father used to do. It brought back those memories; she worshipped in her head.

Never to happen again.

Her mother shouted back, ignoring the memories of the man she once called husband. She had fallen pregnant with Sophia young, only seventeen of age, and the love of her life promised to be by her side until the end, yet when she woke up every morning, his side of the bed was empty.

Cold and empty.

The argument ended once Sarah couldn't control herself, slapping her princess when she said words that hurt the most. Tears streamed down her cheeks like they once had for Sarah in the same position.

Her hands were still shaking. She reached out to her daughter, begging for mercy and forgiveness, to what the girl refused.

Sophia turned eleven and went to hogwarts, making friends who matched her energy. On her thirteenth birthday, Austin joined her in school. On her fifteenth, she wrote her examination of O.W.L.s, thanking her close friend for all the support and help they had given each other, soon discovering she passed with six outstanding.

Through all these years, Sophia never accepted her mother's apology, ignoring her mother's pleads until the end.
