chapter 5: the gardener

[ "Ignore the Chaos Twins. They're idiots. I'll show you to your rooms while Athena begins dinner for all of you."

"Sure, why not? I'm not supposed to be searching for a haven or anything." ]

Luciana looked around. The trees had parted eventually, a gravel path leading between them. It was a beautiful land, green and luscious, color. They followed the path until they reached a large garden.

Trees of all kinds hung on one side while vegetables and fruits stood on the other. In between were different colors of flowers.

Wearing gardening clothes, a woman was yanking out weeds in the garden. There were streaks of dirt all over her face. She had blonde hair tied into a braid to keep out of her face.

The woman's head perked up when she heard them coming and turned to look at them. Her eyes lit up when they landed on Athena and Katherine.

"Alexi," Athena greeted with a smile.

"Well, hello, there, handsome. Gorgeous," she winked at Katherine who waved back at her, smirking. "You didn't tell me you were coming. I would've at least liked a letter," she joked.

"I think you forget that this is my property," Athena drawled, though she didn't look all that mad.

"I'm the one that takes care of it, red," Alexi argued, tapping the woman's chest gently before turning to the witches, "and who might you all be?" She smiled charmingly, easing all the witches' nerves.

Katherine dropped her arm over Alexi's shoulders and gestured to them, "This would be the Edwards Coven. They had to flee and we stumbled upon them. Now, they're here until we've found their new settlement."

Alexi raised an eyebrow, leaning into her friend as she looked at the older vampire. "Stumbled, right." She knocked the back of her knuckle against her friend's jaw and then kissed her cheek before turning to the witches. "Well, there is plenty of room. One main house that some of you can stay in and two other homes on the property. Athena will take some of you to the main while Katerina and I take another group each."

"That sounds lovely, thank you," Micah said, bowing his head in the blonde's direction. Alexi nodded back, smiling. "Alright, folks. Let's split up."

Athena helped since she knew the amount of rooms and space each held. Micah, Elena, and Luciana would be in the main house along with Athena, Katherine, and Alexi since the main house had almost all of Athena's siblings' rooms in it. Except for the eldest apparently who liked his quiet.

The rest would be split between the other two houses.

Luciana eyed the blonde and brunette who were pushing against each other with their arms. As if trying to make the other fall over. Katherine had a bright smile on her face, laughing when Alexi said something.

"Girls," Athena snapped and they both instantly straightened, looking at the woman. The redhead shook her head in amusement, "Go."

Alexi bowed and then took her group. Katherine nudged her friend when the woman came to stand next to her. Then she turned to the witches. "Alright, the rest of you follow me."
