Pristine nails grazed my scalp and parted my hair gently, my breath coming out in gentle puffs as I floated in the abyss with just her, her body being my anchor to that plane of existence.

Her rose painted lips smiled down at me as I peered at her through my eyelashes, framing her was hazy blue that fades into an abyss of black. None of it was real, I knew that.

She looked angelic there against the darkest of colours our universe could offer, it was bittersweet as her nails grazed my scalp again reminding me of just what she was.

Of what we were.

As her nails and fingers retreated those sparks remained, spilling in their wake just to fade into a numbness. I realized then, what I was chasing after.

It wasn't her or her charmed smiles, it wasn't the feeling of eternal peace I gained by laying there under her touch. It was the feeling of humanity I received from chasing everything else.

I blinded myself into only seeing what I wanted to see.

My eyelashes fluttered again as she grazed along my forehead with her fingers, the lines she left left a cold chill.

Cold like my veins and cold like the truth I ran from.
