After my conversation with Alexander, I simply walked away. I made my way to Thorne's room and knocked on the door.
He opened it and glared at me. "What do you want?" he demanded.
"I can't sleep," I replied. "Can we talk for a moment?"
"If I say no, will you even go away?" Thorne asked, then sighed, stepping back into his room and leaving the door open for me to enter.
We both took a seat. "How are you managing with everything that's happening?"
"You really want to know?" he crossed his arms before taking a sip of what looked like coffee. "or did Alexander finally have the balls to tell you off and now you feel bad?"
"Both." i answered honestly. "i was so caught up in my own grief that i forgot to see how others were going through it.
"It's not the first time you've done this," Thorne informed me. "Whenever it comes to Alexandria, you check out of everything. You left my wife to raise your children during the first years of their lives. And I allowed it because you were grieving the loss of your wife, but when I lost my own wife... you completely abandoned me."
"I should have known better too." He continued. "Its just like you, you are self centered and arrogant and always have been. I always wondered what she saw in you.... but now shes evil, and you two are perfect for eachother."
"Shes not evil." i said, trying to hold back my anger. "her powers are just...."
"Too much," Thorne finished in a mocking tone. "She was my friend, my dearest and closest friend. She saw me as more than just the world's greatest assassin, more than Surok Thornvale; she saw me for who I am, just Thorne. But she killed my wife, and everyone expects me to forgive her once we save her. I don't think I will be able to, James."
"Once we bring her back to the light, I don't want the damned elven throne, especially after I finally got rid of it," he continued. "I never wanted it to begin with, but I did it for her. Once she's back to good, I will be leaving because seeing her get off without punishment will be too hard on my heart."
"She wont get off for this." i told him. "did Alexander not tell you?"
"Tell me what?" he scoffed. "that he saw his sister was still good? that he knows he can save her?"
"no," i shook my head. "Alexander intends to take over as Great Dragon and have Alexandria answer for her crimes, he will not kill her, but she will not go unpunished."
"i want to see that." he laughed. "we have all let her get away with too much over the years, but what she has done these last couple.... i want to be one of the ones to punish her."
"i figured as much." I nodded. "do you really think she would want to live after what she did?"
"Thats just it." Thorne looked serious. "you have a daughter who can intensify emotions, i want her to suffer until it breaks her. until i know for sure that she understands that what she has done is unforgiveable, and only then will i let up on that. i lost the love of my life because of her, i want her to know that."
I nodded. "You scare me sometimes."
"I scare myself," Thorne replied with a slight smile. "Thank you for finally checking in on me, even if it was only because Alexander told you off. It means a lot to me that you came to me first."
"How did you know you were first?" I asked him as we stood.
"Because I know you," Thorne answered.
"So you don't hate me?" I asked him, a bit scared that he might.
