LUNA WASN'T SURE HOW long she and Irina sat in the snowbank, staring straight ahead at the stars twinkling in the night sky around the moon. They were completely silent, yet Luna didn't feel tense—it was utterly comfortable, which shocked her.

Time moved differently for vampires, considering they didn't age and they didn't sleep. When there wasn't a clock around, Luna never knew what time of day it was; all she knew was whether it was morning or night. Hours were the equal of minutes, in her mind, and she was sure to a lot of other vampires, too.

So, whether she and Irina were out there for thirty minutes or three hours, it didn't particularly matter to her. Luna was oddly content—fully content for the first time since losing her mother. Funny enough that it would be with the recluse of the Denali Clan.

With Irina, Luna didn't feel like she had to make conversation. As nice as Tanya, Kate, Carmen, and Eleazar were, she didn't have that sense of peace with them that she did with Irina. They'd said less than ten words to one another within Luna's time in Denali, yet, for whatever reason, she was the person that she felt the most serene with.

When Luna met the Cullens after Carlisle turned her, she had liked them all right away, but it took time for her to be one-hundred percent comfortable with them, able to sit in peaceful silence without feeling the awkward pressure of having to talk. Even once she got closer to each of the Cullens, she had never experienced such an intense, all-consuming level of peace as she had here, in this snowbank in Alaska, with Irina.

The only other person she had ever felt so connected to was her mother.

Maybe it was silly of her, but Luna wanted to be in Irina's presence all the time now. Of course, she couldn't be, as she was sure everyone would think of her as weird, but she wanted to hold onto that serenity that flowed like waves from the blonde next to her.

Even though her mother had only recently died, Luna hadn't had her presence since she herself died, and that was decades ago. With turning into a vampire, she couldn't be around her mother anymore, so for decades on end, she'd craved that safe space that only Lisa Wilson could provide for her.

Now that she had found it again, she never wanted to let go.
