As the storm raged outside of the barn, the four of you sat in the barn, each comfortable on separate beds in the barn loft. It was cozy, and it made good conversation. Despite the rough introduction earlier, the tension between you and Prince Wren had eased.

His presence no longer felt imposing, and in fact, he seemed grateful to have the company. Instead of the awkwardness of strangers, you felt a sense of camaraderie with this man.

Prince Wren leaned up against the wall beside the bed he claimed, his armor catching the flickering light of the fire.

"I never imagined my path would bring me here," he began, his voice calm but thoughtful. "Back in my father's castle, I was another training warrior in the family. When my older brother departed on his journey to the King's castle a few years ago..." He paused, glancing at each of you before continuing.

You looked at him curiously. "Your brother?"

Wren nodded, his gaze distant, his eyes fixed on the flames.

"My older brother, Dak. He left the castle years ago, following the same road I travel now. He set out to join the king's army, to serve and protect the kingdom under the name of our father, Lord Callen. He always hoped for us. But..." His voice faltered slightly. "He never made it."

Kian raised an eyebrow. "What happened to him?"

Wren sighed, his expression softening into a mixture of sorrow and uncertainty. "No one knows for sure. He left on his journey, and we received word that he was nearing the capital, but after that... nothing. He just vanished. No one's seen or heard from him since."

The barn fell quiet as the weight of his words sank in. You, Luka, and Kian exchanged uneasy glances. The thought of a prince disappearing without a trace was unsettling, to say the least.

"You think something happened to him on the way?" Luka asked, his voice cautious.

Wren shrugged, though his eyes reflected the pain he felt.

"It's possible. The roads are dangerous at night, full of thieves, mobs, and worse. My father, feared the worst when we lost contact with him. But... I still hold out hope that he's alive, somewhere."

There was a heavy silence as you considered what Wren had shared. You could see now why he had such a deep sense of responsibility, why he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. It wasn't just about duty, it was something personal.

"And now you're on the same journey?" you asked.

Wren nodded. "I am. My father still rules the castle, and I've sworn to honor the family's name. But more than that, I hope to find out what happened to my brother."

Luka leaned back, a thoughtful look on his face. "That's quite the burden, Mate."

"It is," Wren agreed, his voice calm but resolute. "But it's one I've accepted. I'm not just traveling to serve the king. I'm traveling to uncover the truth."

Kian, who had been silent for a while, finally spoke up. "It's admirable, what you're doing. I can't imagine leaving everything behind like that. Or losing my donkey of a big brother." he teased, ruffling your hair.

Wren smiled at your brotherly bond, though only faintly.

"I didn't leave everything. My family still stands strong, their prayers guarding me. And as long as I have that, I have something worth fighting for, that, and my future bride."

The three of you frowned. "Wait, you're marrying that girl already? It's barely been an evening-"

Wren let out an involuntary cackle of amusement, his hearty laughter contagious.
