Reality is an Illusion

"A-X-O-L-O-T-L! My time has come to burn! I invoke the ancient power that I may return!"

Bill blinked his eye open to see that his last-resort call upon the Axolotl had succeeded. He had only a moment to once again take in the cosmic being before the pain set in. It was unlike anything he'd ever felt before; a broad, glowing, glitching scar running across his triangular body, through his eye. He grimaced, but only for a moment, as he swiftly pulled himself together and turned his gaze back up to address the Axolotl.

"Ax! Old buddy, old pal! Think you can help a guy out?"

Ever calm and unhurried, the Axolotl answered him after a moment. "You have breached the set laws of reality and interdimensional travel many a time since your creation. Your continued existence may prove only to cause further harm."

Bill scoffed. "Come on, you know me! All in good fun! Just about every creature is inconsequential in its existence anyway. We're gods! Why shouldn't we be able to play around with them?"

"Therein lies your problem, young Cipher. Each so-called inconsequential creature is meant to live out its existence just as planned; you choose to disrupt the natural order."

Though he would never admit it, even to himself, the triangle was beginning to feel nervous. "So? Who cares, really?"

The Axolotl let out a long sigh. "Those creatures. Every one of them. And you."

A short laugh escapes Bill, followed by a half-contained eye-roll as he realizes the seriousness of the Axolotl's tone. "As if I care. Who needs them? Who needs anyone?"

This time, the Axolotl was quiet for a few agonizingly long moments before responding. "You may yet be allowed to live again, Cipher. The only way, however, will be to complete my most difficult trials."

"Easily! What will you have me do? Fight demons, eat ghosts?"

"If all goes well, you'll find out soon enough. Do you agree to these terms, William Cipher?"

Bill extended his hand, which ignited with blue fire after a few sputtering sparks. "You've got a deal, Ax!" How bad could these trials be?
