Chanyeol stormed out of the house, his anger barely contained. As he walked toward his car, Hongki, one of their bodyguards, rushed up to him. "Sir, do you need assistance? Should I drive you?" he asked, concern clear in his eyes.
"No, Hongki. I need to clear my head. I'll drive myself," Chanyeol replied sharply, brushing past him without a second glance. He could feel the anger boiling over inside him, mixing with a sense of betrayal and frustration. He needed space, air—anything to stop himself from exploding. Slamming the car door shut, he drove off, not entirely sure where he was going.
After a few minutes on the road, he called Jackson, his lawyer and trusted friend. "Meet me at the usual spot," Chanyeol muttered, the rage still fresh in his voice. Jackson immediately agreed, sensing something was deeply wrong. Luckily, he was already around the area.
Chanyeol arrived at the pub, gripping the steering wheel tightly before stepping out. Inside, Jackson was already seated, a glass of whiskey in front of him. Chanyeol sat down, running his hand through his hair in frustration.
"What's going on?" Jackson asked, his voice calm, but his eyes filled with concern.
Chanyeol took a deep breath, staring down at the table before he spoke. "My mother... she's threatening Baekhyun. She gave him an ultimatum to sign off our baby by tomorrow morning and disappear after delivery. The worst part is... she hit him, Jackson. She raised her hand against him, and Baekhyun didn't even tell me. I had to find out through that damn contract she left in our house."
Jackson listened, nodding, his mind working as Chanyeol spoke.
"She did the same thing to Jun's mom," Chanyeol continued, his voice lower now, filled with pain. "That's why she left me. And now... now she's trying to do the same thing to Baekhyun."
Jackson leaned in, lowering his voice. "I have an idea," he whispered, his words too quiet for anyone else to hear. He spoke calmly, with purpose, and though Chanyeol's face remained tense, there was a flicker of hope in his eyes. The two continued talking in hushed tones, Jackson's plan unfolding in secret.
Meanwhile, back at home, Baekhyun's world was crumbling. The tears wouldn't stop, his breath catching in his throat as his chest heaved with sobs. The pain in his heart was unbearable, and the guilt was suffocating. He had tried to hold on, to be strong, but he felt himself slipping. His sobs echoed in the empty room, his body trembling from exhaustion. Finally, overcome with emotion and the physical toll of everything, he collapsed, passing out on the floor, his body limp.
When Chanyeol got back into the house an hour later, he expected to find Baekhyun in the living room, waiting like he always did. Even after their worst arguments, Baekhyun never went to sleep until they had sorted things out. But this time, the couch was empty. The room was eerily silent.
"Baekhyun?" Chanyeol called out, his voice echoing through the quiet space. There was no response, just the unsettling stillness that made his heart pound harder.
Auntie Ha-Neul appeared from the hallway. "Baekhyun's inside, young master. He might be asleep."
Chanyeol furrowed his brows, something feeling off. "He never sleeps before we talk..." he muttered under his breath, more to himself than to Ha-Neul.
Concern clawed at him as he walked upstairs, his steps heavy with unease. Entering their bedroom, his eyes swept over the bed, expecting to find Baekhyun there, but it was empty. A chill ran down his spine.
