Unexpected allies

Note: Thank you SO MUCH for all the support on this! recently I've had a lot of motivation to write more, so here's chapter four!

Julia's POV

I lie awake at night, unable to sleep. All I can think about is how much of an idiot i've been these past few episodes. I told myself I wouldn't talk to Mk this whole season, yet i've made a fool of myself right in front of her what feels like a hundred times.

Why can't I just ignore her? Why can't I just, not think about her. It seems like every minute of the day she's on my mind, I think of what i'll say to her, but chicken out. It's probably made my game worse now to ignore her than to just be her friend. But, it's too late now. I've officially destroyed me and her. I wish I could've just, talked to her. I feel like im in this constant loop, where I plan out an apology, but somehow fail it. I pull out my phone and decide to come up with something to say

"Hey mk, i think i lov"

I delete it. I can't write a script for an apology. I especially can't say THAT to her, why would I write that, or even think that, I am not in love with her.
I think..
While staring at my blank phone, I jump hearing a loud announcement through the speakers

"HELLO CAMPERS! Come out to the main area to hear today's challenge!"

My entire cabin groans, I check my phone
2:43am. This is way too early to start! By the time we are all outside mostly everyone is in their pajamas. I look around for Mk, and immediately find her, in some dumb t shirt and pajamas pants. Oh, and that dumb hat. I never understood why she wore it all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if she wore it to shower or swim or something.

Chris finally starts talking.

"Okay campers, today's challenge, is called the element of surprise! Basically, you're all going to be climbing up a four story Rapunzel type tower, and each floor is based off a different element, like earth fire water air yknow? Anyways, to add a fun twist, after each floor, to move on you have to answer a trivia question about a person here! The questions get more specific as you move up, and if you get one wrong, you'll be sent back to redo whatever floor you were just on! Now, follow me and I will bring you to your castle, my ladies."

I roll my eyes and follow along, up to the insanely tall tower. We each slowly wait in suspense, for the challenge to start.. "GO!" Chris yells, everyone all at once starts running.

The first challenge is earth, a giant sandpit where we have to dig through and find the puzzle piece to finish our puzzle, each camper has their own, with a photo of them on it.

I dig through, slightly falling behind while other people find theirs immediately, somehow. I see Mk struggling too, I dig and find what looks like my piece, but look at it and see that it's Mk's, without thinking, I bury the piece as deep as I can, and continue looking. I eventually find mine, while Mk is still looking. I feel guilty for hiding hers, but.. game is game.

The next challenge is air, it's a a narrow beam suspended in the air, with fans blowing from both directions. I start walking across, as everyone else falls, I make it, flawlessly. I've been in gymnastics since I was six so..

The third obstacle is, fire. It looks like some type of obstacle course with fake fire effects, like red streamers and stuff. I guess the network didn't want chris burning us to a crisp.

The first part of the course is to grab a torch, and to walk through a very narrow path, without dropping your torch, I somehow make it through without causing a fire, and run through all the fake streamers, to the final challenge.

The only person I see in the water part is Nichelle. She's already got a start, and the challenge seems to be to just jump on shaking platforms above water without falling in, so I run up behind Nichelle, who is too close for comfort to the finish line. Without thinking, I shove her, lightly, and hop down.

"And Julia takes the win! It was a close tie, but Nichelle fell near the end."

I turn around and see Mk, who I guess caught up, I hope that she didn't see me push her. That wouldn't really help my planned out apology.
I hear nichelle yell out from the water,

"That's not fair! She litterally pushed me into the water!"

"Well nichelle, we don't condone cheating here. So since Mk was the only witness, we'll ask her. If  Julia really did push her, she's eliminated."

I look over at Mk, staring at her, I hear Chris whisper something to chef

"See, I knew making Mk tell us would cause some drama.." and then something else I didn't hear

"Uh.. julia.. she didn't push her."

I sigh in relief, im surprised she'd cover for me after everything, but I guess I can't complain.

Before the voting ceremony, I decide to try and apologize to Mk right after. That way if it fails. I can just go to sleep and hopefully never wake up!

I hear that the votes are mostly going to either Nichelle, for "lying" about me pushing her. Once chris starts giving out marshmellows, the final one is to go to Mk, or Nichelle.

"And the final marshmellow of the night, goes to.."

I feel my hands get sweaty, I clench my teeth, and tap my foot nervously

"Mk!"

Nichelle sighs and walks off, and I see Mk walk away, now is the chance. I catch up to her and start talking, hopefully this will go well.

"Hey mk, can I talk to you.."

*she sighed and turned around*

"Yeah?"

"I..."

Oh god, my mind goes blank, I open my mouth but no words come out. I physically cannot speak, she stares at me in confusion

"What do you want, Julia?"

Silence.

"Okay whatever, i'll just go-"

I finally say something

"I'm in love with you mk."

"What..?"
