Commitment is the Continuation of Love's Spark
Time passed, and session after session of counselling took place. There were times when Ms. Jenny met with Lolita, times when she met with Eggy, and other sessions where both Lolita and Eggy were brought together.
There were many things Lolita didn't know about Eggy. Like her, Eggy also carried a lot of pain from his past, especially from the harsh treatment of his father. He had endured abusive language, insults, mockery, and even beatings from childhood through his teenage years. As a teenager, Eggy began to stand up to his father and finally gained freedom from him when he went to study at a university in Canada at the age of eighteen. He chose a place far in the North, near the Arctic, so his father couldn't visit him often.
Like Lolita, Eggy needed time and commitment to let go of his past hurts. He eventually surrendered to the process and learned how to control his emotions, and how to be willing to give his wife something better than what he gave himself. He learned to love Lolita as much as he loved himself.
The court mediation also ran in parallel with the counselling. Lolita requested a temporary suspension of the divorce proceedings, negotiating terms about child custody in case Eggy's changes didn't last forever. She proposed that in the event of a divorce, she would have full custody of both children. Eggy agreed to these terms and promised to cover the children's education expenses if that situation arose.
It was not easy for Eggy to set aside his ego, to learn to yield, and to love Lolita as he loved himself. He was used to loving himself, choosing the best for himself, and looking down on others. But this time, Eggy was making a sincere effort to change for the sake of saving their marriage. He had no better choice. He knows well that Lolita is the only person for him. Even if he divorced Lolita and marrying someone else, he is sure if he can get younger, better, sexier wife compared to Lolita, but for how long? How long that the new wife will stay with him? Lolita has stayed for long time, bear her difficulties living with him.
Eggy tried so hard to win Lolita back.
