A Kingdom of silk and shadows

Prologue

Long ago, in the Kingdom of Shelkiteni, there once was a young witch named Wayland. Wayland was a powerful young woman. She was known for going around the Kingdom, with the self-imposed mission of helping those in need. As a child, she was blessed with great and divine power. As such, she received acclaim as a prodigy. As she grew into her young adult years, she began to encounter various mystical creatures she would have to face. Amongst these creatures was a fearsome dragon. In fear of what would happen to her village should the dragon be allowed free rein and enter unopposed, she chased off the dragon and followed it into a cave. As she entered the cave, she approached the dragon cautiously, ready to retaliate if an assault ensued. Much to her surprise, however, she discovered that the dragon was actually wounded. In showing remorse for her snap judgement and in an effort to save the poor creature, she drained most of her powers, leaving her helpless and at the mercy of the creature she had just revived. Upon realizing that it had been healed, the dragon turned to the girl, showing a level of gratefulness and pity in its glance. In that moment of grace, the dragon bonded with her, and in doing so, made itself her familiar. Upon her return to her village, she was met with praise and adulation. The people of the village would unanimously decide to crown her queen. As the generations passed, Wayland and her descendants would rule over the kingdom. Upon her passing, a prophecy was told...

"In the kingdom's darkest time, a queen will rise. With the aid of her friends, they will defeat the darkness and bring the light back to the kingdom".

Days became years, years to decades, decades to centuries. Generation after generation passed, and Wayland and the prophecy were all but a distant memory. Thousands of years later, modern times have washed over the kingdom and the people live peacefully. Now we see Calypso, the princess of the kingdom, gazing out the window wondering what life was like outside the kingdom.
