🩰 On paper, Evangeline Li is a perfect student. Straight A's, 4.0 GPA, great AP scores, and just about everything else you'd expect of someone who's dedicated her entire life to her schooling. Since she was a little girl, her goal was to get into Columbia University, and she took that goal very seriously.
There was one little problem, though.
Eva is, academically, a great student. The beginning of her junior year, though, she's informed by her counselor that if she wants to get into a school like Columbia, it's going to take a lot more than good grades and high test scores to get in. Eva needs to do something that's going to make her stand out amongst the other applicants.
There are a few options she can choose from. She can try out for a sport, but Eva's never really been athletically gifted, so she's pretty sure that won't work out. She could join a club, an idea she's not super against, but Redwood High doesn't offer many exciting clubs.
Then, as if it was fate, Eva finds a poster advertising the drama department holding auditions for their upcoming production of The Phantom of the Opera. It was perfect! Eva had sang for her church's choir since she was in elementary school, so all she would have to do was show up, audition, and put in minimal effort as a member of the ensemble.
After her audition, though, that is not what happens.
The morning the cast list goes up, Eva didn't bother going to check, assuming she'd just made it into the ensemble. Something horrible happens, though, when random classmates she's hardly spoken a word to start congratulating her.
