The little fox pressed down on the small black object with its paw, preventing it from jumping anymore.
The small black object wriggled and protested under the fox's paw, making a clanging noise. "Clang clang!"
It had just reunited with its owner and was excited to be close to them. Why couldn't it show some affection? It wasn't just the fox's owner, but also the owner of the furnace!
The little fox, having picked up on the furnace's provocative thoughts, showed a hint of anger on its fox-like face. It swatted the small black object, sending it flying far away.
Chen Er and Xuanyuan Mu, who were observing the scene, were speechless.
Xuanyuan Mu picked up the furnace and dusted off the lid.
The small black object made a whining noise, "Ying."
Chen Er bent down to wake Yan Zhao.
Yan Zhao's consciousness returned, and she looked around in confusion. "Why am I lying down?"
Chen Er replied, "It was just a minor accident."
"Oh," Yan Zhao didn't think much of it and quickly got up from the ground.
However, as soon as she stood up, she felt a lingering pain on her forehead and touched it to find a large bump had formed. Probably from when I fell, Yan Zhao thought.
"Come in and sit for a while," Xuanyuan Mu invited Yan Zhao and Chen Er inside.
Chen Er had intended to refuse, but Yan Zhao stepped inside, and after a moment of hesitation, Chen Er silently followed.
Although Yan Zhao had been to Xuanyuan Mu's residence before, it was her first time entering the hall.
Xuanyuan Mu had kept the room clean and tidy. The spacious outer room was used for receiving guests, and further inside was a private courtyard.
As Yan Zhao entered, a breeze from outside lifted the curtain leading to the inner courtyard.
She saw a long stone table under a tall grapevine trellis, with a mechanical bird nearly as tall as a person standing on the table. The edge of the table was adorned with a string of colorful feathers.
Before she could take a closer look, the breeze lowered the curtain by itself.
Xuanyuan Mu went to the table and poured tea, saying to Yan Zhao and Chen Er, "Help yourselves to the chairs."
After they sat down and exchanged a few words, Xuanyuan Mu quickly noticed Chen Er's unusual behavior and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you so quiet today?"
Chen Er replied, "I sometimes like to pretend to be profound and deep."
"You know it's just pretense," Xuanyuan Mu said bluntly but with concern, "What's going on? Tell me."
Chen Er, as last night, refused to open up and stubbornly said, "It's really nothing. Why does everyone keep asking? Do I look like I have a problem?"
Unlike Lei Shuang, who could be easily misled, Chen Er found it hard to fool Xuanyuan Mu.
Xuanyuan Mu responded firmly, "It's not about looking like you have a problem, it's whether you'll talk or not. If not, don't think you're leaving this room today."
"......" Chen Er gritted her teeth, "This is too much! You never show this much concern for me normally. There's really nothing wrong, so stop asking."
Seeing that Chen Er was stubborn, Xuanyuan Mu put down the teacup and said, "Fine."
