i never thought someone would make me feel so high, but here you are
It had been far too long of a day. The shops were busier than usual, with Rhiannon constantly moving back and forth from working on her fashion pieces to helping Stephanie control the front. She'd also been used as an errand girl, having to run into town to grab something Stephanie or her mother demanded. It was tiring, and Rhiannon couldn't wait to feel the warmth of her giant comforter lying neatly atop her bed.
"Need you to close the shop for me," Stephanie walked into the back room. "You've done more than enough styling today, it's time for you to take over the front."
"Aren't we supposed to be closing together?" Rhiannon asked as she began to clean up. She had decided not to test Stephanie today, especially since she'd still been giving sly remarks about the other night.
Stephanie blamed Rhiannon because Josh Freeman wasn't into her. Although none of it was Rhiannon's fault - the blonde not even hearing about the boy before - that didn't matter to Stephanie. Josh was interested in Rhiannon, as most men were. And even though Rhiannon couldn't care less and wasn't interested in any way, that didn't matter. Him being into the girl was more than enough for Stephanie to hold a grudge, that's how it had always been.
"We were, but I've actually got plans," Stephanie smirked, crossing her arms over her chest.
"With who?" Rhiannon couldn't help but ask aloud. She looked at her older sister with furrowed eyebrows, her movements of cleaning up for the night stopping.
"Josh Freeman," Stephanie looked at Rhiannon with a smug look - one that seemed to be a look of pride. She was rubbing it in Rhiannon's face that she'd made plans with the boy, as if she expected Rhiannon to be bothered.
Rhiannon's lips pressed together as she tilted her head, nodding in response. "Right. Okay, well have fun."
She returned to what she had been doing before, ignoring the narrowed eyes from Stephanie. "What, that's it?" Stephanie asked, looking at her with raised eyebrows.
"What, did you expect me to beg you to stay? You're a big girl, you can make your own decisions." Rhiannon told her, turning back toward the older girl.
"You're not going to talk about the fact that I finally won?" Stephanie asked, "I found someone who likes me, not you. Someone that isn't falling at your feet instead of mine."
"I don't care, Steph," Rhiannon told her honestly. She walked past her sister and toward the front of the shop, looking to see if anyone had come in while the two were in the back. Stephanie followed out behind the blonde, only causing her to continue. "Also, he's not falling at your feet. I guarantee it."
"Ah, there it is!" Stephanie exclaimed. "You're jealous!"
"No, I'm not." Rhiannon denied, "Quite frankly, I don't care. Go out with that Josh Freeman dude, or don't. I'll survive and be perfectly fine either way. I'm just saying this happens every single time, and I hear the same thing every time. I expect the outcome will be just the same."
"But it won't." Stephanie shook her head, "You know what, Rhiannon? One day I'll win. I'll have it all and you'll have nothing, not even the beauty everyone claims you have. I don't see it at all, you're quite dull and basic, honestly. It won't be long before anyone realizes this too. And the day that I can make you feel like you've made me feel all these years will be worth the wait. And it's going to hit you like a truck."
Rhiannon took in a sharp breath, tapping her fingers against the wooden countertop. "Okay." She told her sister. She knew Stephanie just wanted her to give into her jabs, so Rhiannon could attack her in the same way she had. But she didn't, knowing it was just Stephanie being dramatic.
