Yang Jian stared at the photo on his phone, utterly stunned.
Though the face of the person in the security uniform wasn't visible, the fact that the only people wearing such uniforms in the mall were him and Liu Qiang was undeniable.
There was no mistake: the mall had only two security guards—himself and Liu Qiang.
Since Yang Jian obviously couldn't be the ghost, that left Liu Qiang as the prime suspect.
He recalled his first encounter with Liu Qiang when he entered the mall. Back then, he had caught a faint whiff of the smell of decay. He clearly remembered Liu Qiang approaching him from the darkness, casually greeting him, and saying he had just returned from using the restroom.
The restroom?
If Liu Qiang had actually been in the restroom, how had he not noticed Jiang Yan hiding there all along?
It all seemed to add up.
Yang Jian furrowed his brow deeply. This doesn't make sense. If Liu Qiang is the ghost, why didn't he attack me when we stayed in the dorm together? At that time, I must have fulfilled the conditions to trigger the ghost's attack...
Though there were still uncertainties, the possibility that Liu Qiang was the ghost seemed high. But guessing wasn't enough—he needed more proof.
Yang Jian realized that with the information he had gathered so far, he had enough leverage to confront the ghost directly.
"Has the ghost left? Is it safe now?" Jiang Yan nervously whispered, her voice filled with tension.
Yang Jian nodded. "It's gone. You're safe for now."
She shifted uncomfortably. "Can you, um... move? And, what's that poking into me?"
Yang Jian, realizing their position, smirked. "Don't worry, it's just a sausage. Didn't you say you were hungry? Want it?"
Jiang Yan was taken aback. "Now? Shouldn't we wait until we get out of here?"
"Suit yourself, I wasn't keen on giving it to you anyway," Yang Jian replied with a shrug.
After a brief hesitation, Jiang Yan relented. "Fine... just make it quick, okay?"
"You're so demanding." Yang Jian pulled out his flashlight, illuminating the room. He reached into his pocket and handed her a sausage. "Here you go. It cost me three yuan this morning, so consider yourself lucky. I'm surprised you still have an appetite with everything that's going on."
Jiang Yan stared at the sausage in disbelief. It really was just a sausage...
"I'm heading out now," Yang Jian announced, standing up and leaving the stall, flashlight in hand.
He scanned the surroundings. Everything was calm and quiet.
But as his beam swept over the nearby stalls, Yang Jian was momentarily stunned. The doors that the ghost had seemingly smashed open earlier were now perfectly intact.
Yes, the stalls were all closed, with no signs of damage—completely unexplainable by any rational standard.
"Well, encountering ghosts isn't exactly a scientific matter in the first place," Yang Jian muttered, shaking his head and choosing not to dwell on the ghost's abilities.
"Where are you going? There's a ghost out there. Shouldn't we wait here until daylight?" Jiang Yan asked cautiously as she emerged from the stall, still holding the sausage.
