Durham, Ontario
July 10, 2023
Ear-piercing screams echoed along the walls of a pitch-black alley of Durham, Ontario; a gleaming red knife went in and out of Patrik's stomach. Levi abruptly stood up and inspected his vicious kill. Suddenly, teenage laughter was heard a short distance away, and he ran down the alleyway and quickly stopped behind an empty trash bin. Grabbing his spare clothes, he silently switched them with his now-bloody ones. Levi grabbed a wet rag and wiped the blood off his face and arms. He then walked out like nothing had happened. He turned his head to see if anyone saw him, then walked with his hands in his pockets through the hot July air, back to his small apartment—to his sister.
"Bella!" He called into the small apartment. "Bella! Where are you?"
No answer. Levi went into every room with no sign of her. "BELLA! Where the heck are you?" Still no answer. Suddenly, his phone rang. Levi jumped, startled. He rolled his eyes at himself for being so jumpy. He grabbed the cellphone out of his pocket.
"Hello? This is the Rooza household." He answered.
"Hello, Levi." A deep, raspy voice answered back. He rolled his eyes. He knew it was his sister. The two siblings had a mask that could change their voice pitch. They used it when they wanted to talk to their victims and didn't want them knowing it was them.
"Bella? Finally! Where are you?" He asked, annoyed. No answer.
"Bella!" He groaned.
"I'm not Bella."
"Bella! I told you to stop using the voice. I've been looking all over the house for you! Where the heck are you!?" He yelled.
"Let's play hot or cold. You walk, and I'll talk."
"Bella, I don't want to play games with you right now. I just killed a guy, and now I'm tired. Where in the world are you?"
"Come on, it will be fun."
Levi sighed in exasperation.
"Fine, whatever. And stop using the voice. It's creepy."
"I'm just practicing."
"Whatever." Levi started walked around the living room.
"Cold."
Levi walked into his bedroom. He looked under the bed and in the closet, and even in the bathtub, where several victims of theirs were murdered. But unfortunately, all the places were with no sign of Bella.
"Freezing." Levi kept walking around the house, but with no luck. He walked into the kitchen.
"Hot. Keep going." Levi stopped. The kitchen is small, where could she be? Levi thought. He slowly turned to the fridge.
"Hotter."
Levi hesitantly took a step forward.
"Even hotter."
Levi grasped the fridge door handle.
"Scorching."
He pulled it open to find his mutilated sister squashed in the freezer. He shut the door, terrified, and whirled around to find someone with a large kitchen knife in their hand and a white phantom mask over their whole face.
"Who are you?! What do you want?" Levi shouted, stumbling against the counters, searching for a weapon. He looked in the knife holder, but they had been taken out. Levi opened a drawer and searched for another knife. Everything was missing.
"Looking for something?" The masked man had the same deep, raspy voice as the one on the phone. Levi saw that he was holding up a gleaming knife. Levi gasped and ran to the other end of the kitchen. The masked man blocked the only door out. Levi whirled around.
"You are cornered, Levi. Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide."
Levi tried to go between the person's legs. The man caught him by the arm and swung him into the wall.
"Where do you think you're going, Levi?"
Suddenly, the anonymous man sent the knife he was holding deep into Levi's stomach. He stabbed him over and over again, with Levi writhing and screaming in pain. "Now you'll know what it's like to be killed, Levi."
"P-please! S-stop!!"
The masked man kept going until...
Screaming.
Blackness.
Silence.
