Silent Despair

My thoughts drift back to you, no matter the topic at hand.
You were too special to ever be forgotten, even through the years.
The darkness of my life was all-consuming, yet you brought me light.
Amidst our endless battles, anger and hatred exchanged in our fights.

Once, the thought of you with someone else was a terrifying prospect,
But now, it’s become a goal I strive to reach.
Was it love? Everyone asks, and yes, I knew it was.
I felt my heart flutter every time we touched, I knew the depth of my feelings.

Cowering in a corner, hoping you wouldn’t notice me amidst your rage,
Desperately hoping I wasn’t just a target for your frustrations.
Still, I prayed you’d release your anger and hold me close.
Was it too much to hope for? Too much to dream?

In the darkness outside the window, lying in bed,
Tears streamed sideways from my eyes.
My fingers grew numb from gripping the sheets too tightly.
I longed to scream, but you had silenced my voice.
