In half an hour, when she finally calmed down, Devraj stormed into the room, immediately sensing the tension thick in the air. His dark eyes scanned the scene, as they landed on her. The second he laid eyes on her sitting on the chair next to the buyer, his expression twisted into something dark and furious.
Without a second of hesitation, He strode towards her, She barely had time to react when his hand shot out, grabbing her roughly by the arm, his grip tight enough to make her wince. He yanked her from the chair with brutal force, throwing her onto the cold, hard floor.
Her body hit the ground with a thud, the impact jarring, but it wasn’t the pain that stung the most—it was the humiliation. She clutched her arm, her breath shaking.
“Who gave you permission to sit on the chair, huh?” he spat, his voice dripping with venom.
She trembled on the floor, her fingers digging into the cold tiles, trying to push herself up. Her eyes darted to Abhi, hoping, for a sign of reassurance, but all she saw was his clenched jaw, the tension in his posture unmistakable.
Devraj sneered down at her, his lips curling in disgust. "You think you're special? You think you’re equal to him? To me?"
"Know your place," he growled, towering over her.
The buyer finally spoke, his voice calm and collected, cutting through the tension in the room. "Remember, Devraj, A broken toy doesn’t sell for much. Don’t damage the goods. She’ll learn her place soon enough."
Devraj glanced at the buyer, his lips pulling into a thin, mocking smile. "I suppose you're right. But these girls… they need reminders now and then. Especially this one."He spat the last word, his eyes filled with contempt as he glared down at her one last time before stepping back.
______________
Devraj settled back into his chair, the creak of the leather loud. His movements were slow, as if he was enjoying the control he held over everyone present.
His gaze was piercing, dark with cruel intent as he looked at the buyer."So," he drawled, his voice low, almost lazy. "What’s her price?"
There was no kindness, no humanity in his expression—just the cold calculation
The buyer hesitated for a second, thrown off by the iciness in Devraj's tone. But Devraj’s gaze didn't waver, the intensity in his stare enough to send a shiver down anyone's spine.
"I need a number," Devraj continued, his lips curling into a cold, humorless smirk. "Let's see how much she's really worth to you."
The buyer, sensing the shift in Devraj’s mood but not wanting to risk jeopardizing the final phase of the operation, named a price. It was higher than any amount Devraj had ever received, an absurd figure meant to appease the man’s greed.
Devraj’s eyes widened in shock, and then a greedy smile spread across his face. His fingers itched at the prospect of the fortune being handed to him.
"Interesting." His voice was barely more than a whisper, yet it cut through the air like a knife.“I know you’ll be pleased. She’s one of the finest things you’ll ever get your hands on.”
He glanced at her again, and this time his smirk grew wider, more sinister. "Seems fair... for someone like her."The buyer remained silent, his face betraying no emotion, but Abhi’s chest tightened. They were so close now. Just one final step.
__________________________Devraj, practically glowing with greed, reached out for the money the buyer handed over, his fingers trembling with excitement as he counted the bills. Everything was falling into place, just like always “Finally,” he murmured to himself, a twisted sense of pride in his voice.
But just as Devraj was about to sign the final papers and seal the deal, the door burst open. One of Devraj’s men rushed in, his face pale with urgency, clutching a file tightly in his hands.
The room fell silent, tension freezing the air. Her heart raced in fear, Abhi’s body stiffened, and the buyer’s eyes flickered with confusion. The interruption felt dangerous, like the calm before a storm.
The man handed Devraj the file, leaning close to whisper something in his ear. The words were too quiet for anyone else to hear, but whatever it was, it stopped Devraj in his tracks. His expression hardened, The air thickened with tension as Devraj took the file, His fingers gripped the edges of the file tightly, and he began to read, his eyes scanning the words in a hurried, frantic motion.
At first, confusion washed over his face, his brow furrowing. Then, something darker settled—something grim and dangerous. A shadow crossed the over his face transforming the once confident man into someone unreadable, twisted. The room held its breath,
For a moment, everything seemed to stop. Devraj stared at the paper in disbelief, his mind wrestling with what he had just uncovered. The seconds stretched out, each one heavier than the last, until, without warning, a mocking laugh came from his throat.
The sudden outburst was scary, sending shivers down their spines, as if they were witnessing a man unravel before their eyes.
Devraj’s laughter faded into a chilling silence as he turned his gaze to her, his eyes dark. A fake pity settled on his face as he said,
"You poor thing," he muttered, his voice dripping with sinister humour "Look at you, just a pawn in a game much bigger than you can comprehend.”
Her heart raced as confusion flooded her mind, a cold dread settling in her stomach, terrified of what was to come.
Then, like a sudden jolt of electricity, his gaze snapped to Abhi, and his smirk vanished replaced by a dark, emotionless stare that made the room feel even smaller, more dangerous.. A moment of haunting silence hung in the air, thick with unspoken threats. Devraj’s eyes narrowed, something dark and dangerous flickering behind them.
In a low, ice-cold voice, Devraj finally spoke, addressing Abhi directly, "So, it’s you."
Abhi’s heart pounded in his chest. Whatever was in that file, it had destroyed everything. The fear he had kept buried clawed its way to the surface, knowing that their delicate balance was about to shatter.
