Chpt 9: Am I Brother's Keeper?

80 6 5

A call is coming from the well of Yusuf.

Aur Habil bhi bheeron ka rakhwala tha, jabke Qabeel zameen ka kisaan tha.

Aur waqt guzarte guzarte aisa hua ke Qabeel apne baagh ka phal (thoda kamzor phal) qurbani ke liye apne Rabb ke liye laya, aur Habil apne rewad ka pehla aur sehatmand bheer laaya.

Aur Allah ne Habil aur uski qurbani ko izzat di, lekin Qabeel aur uski qurbani ko izzat nahi di.

To Qabeel bahut ghusse mein aaya, aur uska chehra dhundla gaya.

Phir Allah ne Qabeel se poocha, "Tum gusse mein kyun ho? Tumhara chehra kyun dhundla gaya hai? Agar tum (khalis) achi baat karoge to kya woh qabool nahi ki jayegi? Aur agar tum (khalis) achi baat nahi karoge, to gunaah tumhare darwaze par chowkidar bana hua hai. Aur tum uski khwahish ke mutabiq rahoge."

Aur Qabeel apne bhai Habil se baat karne laga. Aur aisa hua ke jab dono khet mein the, to Qabeel ne apne bhai Habil ko maar diya.

Phir Allah ne Qabeel se poocha,

Kahan hai tumhara bhai Habil?”

Toh woh kehne laga,

“Mujhe nahi pata. Kya main apne bhai ka rakhwala hoon?”

Aur phir Khuda Ta’ala ne فرمایا,

“Yeh tumne kya kar diya? Tumhare bhai ke khoon ki awaaz mujhe zameen ke andar se pukar rahi hai! Aur ab tum mal’oon ho is zameen mein, tumhare haath se jazb kar liya hai. Ab jab tum kheti-baari karoge, toh yeh zameen tumhein faida nahi degi. Ek mfurur aur aawara gard ki tarah bhatakoge tum is zameen par.”

Phir Qabeel ne Khuda se kaha,

“Jo apne lab khol kar tumhare bhai ka khoon keh raha hai, meri saza meri bardasht se bohot zyada hai!”

(Taurat)

And Abel was a keeper of sheep, while Cain was a farmer.

Over time, it happened that Cain brought some fruit from his field (of lesser quality) as an offering to his Lord, while Abel brought the best of his flock, a healthy sheep.

God honored Abel and his offering, but He did not honor Cain and his offering.

Thus, Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell.

Then God said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. Its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."

And Cain talked with his brother Abel. And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Then God asked Cain,

“Where is your brother Abel?”

He replied, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Then God said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground! Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield good crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”
