"SO, YOU'RE NOT gonna be going to the same school as me?" you asked, munching on your popsicle.

"Yeah, I'm going to one of those international schools," Monoma mumbled, shoving his hands into his pockets. "My mom's not sure I'm ready for Japanese schools yet."

"That's wild. Imagine going to some fancy, rich-kid school," you said with a grin.

"You literally attend one of the top hero academies, so you can stop acting all humble," he shot back, giving you a sharp glare. In response, you stuck your tongue out at him.

"Phew, for a second there I thought your transfer was gonna tank my popularity," you sighed dramatically, licking your popsicle with exaggerated relief.

Monoma huffed, his typical smugness in full swing. "Please, if anything, I'd be boosting your already pathetic popularity."

"Yeah, sure, keep dreaming, blondie." You waved him off as you both walked towards the park. His mother had suggested socializing him with other kids to help him adjust better. You took advantage of that excuse, planning to meet up with Bakugo and Midoriya. Introducing Monoma to them this early wouldn't hurt.

But the moment you stepped into the park, the usual banter of your friends was replaced by something far more intense. Your popsicle slipped from your hand and hit the ground as you saw Bakugo looming over Midoriya, his hands sparking dangerously close to the grass.

"Don't try to act all friendly with me, Deku. You're still quirkless," Bakugo growled, his tone dripping with disdain.

Midoriya shifted back nervously, trying to calm the situation. "Kaachan, it's not like that..."

Monoma, oblivious to the tension, bent down and picked up your fallen popsicle stick, tossing it into the trash. "Honestly, [Name], littering? What terrible manners."

You didn't respond, too focused on the tense exchange. Bakugo's words lingered in the air, making it clear that despite everything, the gap between him and Midoriya was as wide as ever.

"I went too soft on you just 'cause [Name] asked me to," Bakugo muttered, glaring down at Midoriya.

Monoma's arm shot out protectively in front of you, a barrier against Bakugo's explosive energy as it sparked ominously in his palms. The smug grin that had earlier danced across Monoma's face faded, replaced by an uncharacteristic seriousness that caught you off guard.
