In a closed room, a man lay on the ground, unconscious.

The long and narrow room is surrounded by bookshelves several meters high, looking like a cage made of books.

There was a half-opened book on the small desk at the end of the room, as if someone had been here just now, but the dense spider webs on the bookshelf showed that no one had lived here for a long time.

Ren Yue had a splitting headache, and when he opened his eyes, he saw nothing but darkness. His first reaction was that he had been knocked unconscious by the robbers, and he didn't know if the robbers were still there, so he lay on the ground and dared not move.

However, after lying there for a while and his eyes had adjusted to the darkness, Ren Yue realized that this was not his room at all!

Was he kidnapped?

Ren Yue got up carefully and looked around. It was indeed not a place he knew. Who would have the time to kidnap an ordinary office worker like him?

Suddenly, there was a flash of light behind him. Ren Yue felt a chill on his back and turned around abruptly. The oil lamp on the desk actually lit up by itself.

Is this a horrible development?

"Ren Yue."

Hearing a voice calling him, Ren Yue looked around and realized that the voice was coming from his head.

"What?"

"You can call me Book Spirit. My duty is to select wise men to enter different worlds to help the protagonist and save the world."

"......"Where should I start to vent my anger about this?

"Okay, now follow your inner guidance and pick up a book from the shelf and put it on the desk."

Ren Yue found that he could not communicate with this so-called book spirit at all. He used the light to bypass the papers and debris scattered on the ground, walked to the door, and tried to open it - as expected, it could not be opened.

"This room is sealed. The situation in Evidea is not optimistic at this time. I suggest you do not try to leave before you gain power."

"Evidea Continent?" Ren Yue was stunned. "Isn't this Earth?"

The voice in my head paused for a moment, as if searching for the word "Earth": "No."

Then Ren Yue sat at the door in disbelief for a while to digest this clichéd time travel plot.

"Can I call you the system?"

"System?" The voice paused for a moment, probably searching for this setting again. "Yes, this name does fit the current situation very well."

"System, can you tell me where I am now? Also, do I have a chance to return to Earth?"

The system's voice sounds very neutral and gender-indistinguishable, but it doesn't sound harsh, but rather a natural human voice.

The continent of Evidea is the main residence of the creatures in the current world. The master of the system, the former wise man, manages this room containing countless "worlds" and watches over the direction of the stories in these worlds.

But just one hundred years ago, the predicted demon king appeared and the continent of Evidea fell into chaos.

The elderly wise man discovered the power that could be obtained from the book. With little time left in his life, he could only seal the room with magic, hoping that his successor would gain enough power to break the seal and leave, thus destroying the devil.

"And you just randomly capture successors from other worlds?" Ren Yue interrupted the system's narration.

"Originally there was a successor, the master's apprentice." The system said with a confused voice, "But a few years ago, he chose to stay in a book forever."

Ren Yue finally understood that the original laborers had run away and he was just a replacement who was picked up from somewhere.

"As for Earth, when you finally gain enough power to defeat the devil, you might be able to open a passage between worlds and return there."

"In short, it's uncertain." Ren Yue sighed and thought about going out without any effort. If the system didn't lie to him, there would be a big villain waiting for him if he went out now, and he couldn't go home anyway. So he approached the bookshelf and took a look. There was a thick layer of dust on the spines of the books. "There are no names on them."

The system did not respond, and Ren Yue found that this thing did not seem to be as enthusiastic as described in some books. But think about it, the master is dead, the master's apprentice ran away, and I, a temporary outsider, am probably just a substitute that the system had to get out of necessity.

There's no progress in just standing there, so why not just give it a try?

Ren Yue decided to go broke. He walked to the bookshelf, tapped his fingers on the spines of a row of books, and casually pulled a book from the shelf. The dust he brought down made him cough.

The system finally responded after seeing him take the book: "Put the book on the magic circle on the desk and open it."

Ren Yue rubbed his short hair that was covered with dust, walked to the desk on the old wooden floor that made a creaking sound.

There was an open book on the desk. He glanced at it casually. The last sentence read, "For some reason, the witch never appeared again after he left with the man that day. From then on, the protagonist and his companions lived..."

What a weird plot! Ren Yue turned two pages back in silence and found that this was not the last page. After this sentence, every page was blank.

"The world of this story has been completely changed due to the thorough intervention of outsiders." The system reminded.

"Outsider?" Ren Yue exclaimed, lowered his head and read the last sentence again, "This witch is the villain of the story? Then this man is..."

The system seemed to not want to say more, and urged anxiously: "Yes, he is my master's apprentice. Now this book is useless, put it aside, and put your book on the magic circle."

Ren Yue was surprised. Fighting a villain boss? Can you play it like this...?

After putting the book away as instructed by the system, Ren Yue placed his right hand on the first page of the book. Traces of words began to appear little by little on the blank paper, as if someone was writing on it.

Before Ren Yue was frightened, he felt a black screen in front of his eyes and disappeared from in front of the table out of thin air.
