Chapter Twenty- The President

Marco suddenly emerged in the room. " Guys we have a special visitor." He said his voice laced with surprise.

" Who is it?" Isaac asked as he stepped forward.

Marco held his breath." The President of the United States."

The room fell silent, a palpable tension hanging in the air as everyone processed Marco's startling announcement. Catherine exchanged glances with Isaac, her brow furrowed in confusion.

"The President?" Isaac echoed, disbelief evident in his voice. "Why would he be here?"

"He's in the area and apparently heard about our recent activities," Marco explained, urgency lacing his tone. "He wants to speak with us—specifically with you, Dr. Wynter."

Catherine's heart raced. This was unexpected, to say the least. "What does he want?" she asked, trying to maintain her composure.

"Not sure," Marco replied, shaking his head. "But he's made it clear he wants to discuss our operations and the evidence we've gathered. It seems he's concerned about the fallout from the journalist's announcement."

Tony chimed in, "This could be a good opportunity—or a trap. We need to be cautious."

"Agreed," Isaac said, his voice steady. "Catherine, do you want to meet with him?"

Catherine took a deep breath, weighing her options. "Yes, but we need to be strategic about this. I want everyone on high alert. If this is a trap, we need to be ready."

"Marco, take point and ensure the perimeter is secure," Isaac instructed. "Tony, gather a few of our most trusted members. We'll meet in the conference room."

As they prepared for the unexpected meeting, Catherine felt a mix of anxiety and determination. This was her chance to confront the highest authority about the corruption she had been fighting against, but she knew they had to tread carefully.

When the time came, they gathered in the conference room, the atmosphere thick with anticipation. The door opened, and the President stepped in, flanked by a couple of aides and security personnel.

"Dr. Wynter," he greeted, extending his hand. "Thank you for agreeing to meet on such short notice."

Catherine shook his hand, her mind racing. "What can I do for you, Mr. President?"

He took a seat, his expression serious. "I've been briefed on the information you've uncovered regarding the corruption within our ranks and the terrorist threats. Your findings are alarming and could shake the foundations of several government entities."

Catherine nodded, feeling the weight of his words. "We're prepared to expose the truth. The public deserves to know what's happening behind closed doors."

The President leaned forward, his tone shifting. "I'm aware of your dedication, and I commend your bravery. However, I must ask you to consider the implications of going public. There are powerful people involved who will stop at nothing to protect their interests."

"We're not afraid of them," Isaac interjected, his voice firm. "This isn't just about politics; it's about justice for the lives lost and the families affected."

The President regarded Isaac thoughtfully. "I understand that passion, but you must realize the risks involved. I'm here to offer a different approach. We want your cooperation in an operation that could root out this corruption more effectively than a public exposure."

Catherine exchanged glances with Isaac and Tony, sensing the tension in the room. "And what does that entail?" she asked, her voice steady.

"I need you to work with my team," the President replied. "We can provide you with resources and protection. Together, we can dismantle this from the inside out."
